Well my comments are clean but not complimentary - I am 64 this year, I am not a carer, I have no dependent children so what's in it for me? Absolutely bugger all. Should I and people like me, who struggled to bring up a family without family credit, nursery care etc etc have to stand at the back whilst others cherry pick because of family friendly policies?

How about family friendly policies for the over sixties, shorter working week of 4 days, free time to enjoy hobbies, walk the dog. What do we get - another 5 years to work and an extra wait for the pension? I say NO let them eat cake!

You don't qualify! you had your fun on the 60's now suck it up and grow old gracefully

You could try and adopt like Madonna! or go looking for an even older "grey" person to befriend and become their carer

These days, people rarely have the backup they had 30+ years ago. So it's much harder to get appropriate care for their children. It took a couple of decades for Family Friendly to come in to close the breach (better late than never eh?!? ).

When I was a child in the '70's, my Parents could count on Friends to look after me and my Sister (we had real Communities back then), until they got Home from work. How many people can still do that now?
And there were also a lot more Housewives back then too. Whereas Women aren't discriminated against as much at work these days.

I'm not saying it was easy back then. But it's a damn sight harder now. People are afraid of letting their neighbours look after their Children nowadays. More people have careers, until they retire. By which time, they can't always cope with small Children running around their House for hours.

You meant the kids at the mill, right, well senile old me - because it was the chimney sweep who sacked them, the filthy little urchins.
