As a postie, all I can do is deliver mail, and as much as I am able. I have my own ideas as to how I might improve my day-to-day tasks and find new roads to small efficiency improvements, but really I am not paid to make decisions of any greater importance. However, the job of a postie is very important, hell the whole business should be geared to making the job as efficient and effective as it can be - our job should lead the market and put the rest of the couriers to shame.
I see that like me, there are just so many other frustrated posties out there. But we all need to pull together and never lose sight of the fact that we are a team. Somehow I think that the pressure is getting to RM, because things have just fallen apart and a 'let's do' culture has been invaded by a 'blame' culture, where ultimatums rather than agreements are the order of the day.
There's no need to read these posts of mine, because they are not intended to get us any further forward, not intended to deal with specific matters pertinent to our day job, but rather to drag some weary eyes back from the brink in order to at least acknowledge that there is always a fresh perspective to be had, no matter how far down the road to disaster a situation may have dragged us.
I have been asked why I keep 'pledging my support' to ACAS, well that's because I prefer to search for solutions than find problems. I'd rather be a part of the solution than part of the problem, and as with ACAS, I can't avoid seeing both sides of the argument.
The next step after going on strike, I guess, is to quit all-together, and I see that there is indeed a thread on here that has chosen 'Quit' as its title. You won't find me in that dark place. Hope comes from within, and I admit that perhaps my vision is impaired by sheer hope, I don't see the point in debating around the issue that plainly there IS an elephant in the room. Things may seem to have gone back to normal, but clearly although we have all gone back to work (because the union can't make up its mind) many posties after putting so much on the (picket) line feel a sense of regret and would perhaps prefer to have achieved more through industrial action.
With so much feeling bubbling under the surface, and mouths taped shut rather than voluntarily, this period of calm is anything but really, and is being held together with a few stamps and a shred of common sense. Yet, when those that matter get back around the table (hopefully ashamed of their behaviour that led to the stand-off), they will have to LEAD by example and try something different that might work, for all our sakes.
As humble posties, why don't we provide the answers for those that matter, why not let this here board be the canvas on which our masters dual? Let's lead from the bottom if there aint any leadership coming our way. Let's turn Royal Fail into Never Fail. Let's put this board back in the news for the right reasons this time. Let's heap even more shame on our so-called leaders who threw us out onto the street only to let us back in after they had spent their budget on take-away pizza.
Let's turn things around and start right here. There's no time like the present. We'll find a way.
Sure we can.
Who needs ACAS !
