There is no commitment to not strike over Christmas and the ballot is still active. Stop falling for Brendan Barber's spiel. If RM f**k about then we can go again in 2 weeks.

exactly
if rm look like slowing the talks down we will be out during the christmas rush.
it would of looked a bit bad on us if we turned down the ceasefire dont you think.

if we go back out it will be because the talks havent worked but at least we tried.

A member from my D.O was Dismissed Without Notice on saturday for I/A related issues.

I was hauled into the office and threatened with suspension on saturday for "refusing a reasonable request". :cuppa

I went to my DOM this morning to discuss when the genuine negotiations regarding EA would start.

He told me "We're just going to hand out sheets of paper to the staff,if they have any problems with the duties they can write them down."

You think the public and big businesses care whether or not the talks work out? All they hear and read is that the strikes are over. That is all they want to read and hear. They are impartial to the conditions and time frames why the strikes are over. If we call a strike next week, next month, next year WE will be the enemy. We have lost the momentum and public support. They were only just beginning to support us and then they hear the strikes are off. If they hear there is more strikes we will be the worst in the world. REGARDLESS if it's Royal Mail's fault that we are out on strike again.

CWU FIGHTBACK
by HootyMacBoob » Tue Mar 31, 2009 9:07,pm

I would like to offer a huge round of applause and thanks to our comrades in Alloa for returning a massive yes vote in favour of strike action. I would also like to thank the CWU members in Cowdenbeath for their 1st round of IA on Friday under difficult and intimidating circumstances where there was 10 managers standing at the end of their frames when it was time for them to walk of the job. Alloa and Cowdenbeath have used the ballot box to register their trust in the CWU and there mistrust of RM. My hope is other offices will follow their lead to stand up to royal mails bully boy tactics of divide and conquer.

Brendan Barber, the General Secretary is responsible for the effective operation of the TUC and for leading implementation of policies set by the annual Congress and the organisation's General Council.

Also chosen by RM and the CWU as the mediator and broker of the interim agreement ...................or was he.

Dingo says, and I quote:

"Look if you would perfrer to believe Royal Mail who stated that in order to protect some big contracts and Barber who was the governments voice in the talks then fair enough"

Not the same Government who was standing aside from the dispute, which according to them had to be settled between the Management and the Union and exactly how much of a voice did Brendan Barber have - the same man who brokered the 2007/2009 agreement - he would definitely not have been my first choice to broker a new deal. Sooooooo - exactly whose first choice was he?

Dingo your last post has raised my spirits a little :Very Happy And despite my posts i really hope an agreement can be reached :pray :pray Heres the but... i have nothing but respect and a huge admiration for the CWU members in certain regions who despite being left in isolation for far too long have got us to where we are, an when the time came the rest of the membership was solid. Unfortunately i cannot say i think that way when it comes to the PEC/HQ.

Having had the opportunity to be briefed by DW, are you 100% sure if RM break this agreement we will be able to restart I/A immediately?? How would that work??

This is from the CWU Website:

CWU Focused on Achieving Resolution
30th October 2009

Billy Hayes, CWU general secretary, said: "Talks will continue between CWU and Royal Mail at the TUC next week. We are very grateful to the TUC for their efforts in helping to try and find a resolution to this dispute.

"We advised Royal Mail and all those in the negotiations last night (Thursday) that the CWU would be serving notice for further strike action today. They agreed to keep talks ongoing in the run-up to that action. The Union is consistently frustrated that Royal Mail keep walking away when we get close to a deal but we hope that that will not be the case next week.

"It is not necessary for this strike to take place and the union remains focussed on reaching an agreement. We hope that Royal Mail will also now be equally focussed.

"CWU is determined to reach an agreement or make enough progress to call off strike action next week."

Does this look like an organisation ready for a fight?

had our meeting this morning with the area rep. not sure if he was just trying to tow the line from union hq or if he really believed in what he was saying. still we all listened to what he had to say and knowing him as i do i think i'll give him the benefit of the doubt. whether we like it or not all any of us can do now is wait and see what r/m do next.

The more posts I read on here about what is happening around the country, the more I realise we have indeed been

'100% SOLD OUT AND TAKEN FOR A MUG'

What communication have we had from the Union since this 'interim agreement'?

What has it 'really' achieved?

Is anyone any better off now than they were BEFORE the strikes and the 'interim agreement'?

No one wants to put the Union down but they have well and truly f**ked us.

CHRISTMAS STRIKES are looming :d'oh! this is the word on the drums people. Let the union support our employment in times of bullying, harassment intimidation, conduct, attendance, constructive dismissal, Industrial tribunals, pensions and the like, however when it comes to the day to day running of Royal Mail let the managers ask what they would like us to do and if its achivable within our 8 hours then it achivable, no questions asked, however the union will get involved when the above applies. Local office cwu reps know how, what and why

That is a fantastic post. RM are our bosses whether we like it or not. We choose to work for them and if we don't like it we can go and work elsewhere....

However they, like every other employer, are not above the law. That is what the CWU should be trying to achieve on behalf of its members...to make sure RM obey the law and that means getting proper reps in place who care and have the education and training to be able to resist anything that approaches law breaking....

At the highest level of course we can make representations about pay, but in the end the striking has been shown as a busted flush that only certain localities can sustain...hence the very quick climbdown by Billy, Dave and all his buddies....

Self preservation....in my opinion...is their game...the money is going in all the wrong places....trips to Moscow and the Phillipines, communications forums in Cyprus, solidarity with causes that have nothing to do with the normal member, environmental reps courses...I could go on....

The money should go where it matters..backing up the local rep and training him or her to f***k so he can run rings around managers who want to flaunt the law...

I don't want to see cash chucked away on rubbish..it needs to be spent at the sharp end, not inside a monolithic bureacracy in Wimbledon...

who's round is it Barry?

look's that way don't it. the feeling where i am is we have been done up like taylor's dumbies. after the meeting with the rep most were ready to give r/m the benefit of doubt. but thing's have gotten even worse now and the union are nowhere to be seen we can't even get hold of them on the phone.

At present I just feel like we've all been truelly shafted, how on earth we gave them our trump card,no strikes over Christmas is just beyond belief,to steal another posters line, the threat of not delivering holiday brochures come January isn't going to have the same effect is it!
Cheers for that CWU.
Please anyone reading this who comes in early, uses their private car for delivery just please please stop and do the job as it was meant to be done.

Things can only get better right??? :nervous
