Yeah, i sometimes start early, but i finish early so whats the problem?

If i start 30mins early but then go home 45mins early I'm 15 mins up. I am not 'working for free' as everyone keeps saying

Also some days i might decide to go in a bit early and prep all my D2D's and blitz them off in one day, but I am getting paid to do the D2D's and i generally make time at some point during the week.

Our D.O is pretty flexible and relaxed when it comes to starting and finishing.

It's good if you can make time - but when managers see people finishing early they don't think "Oh it's OK he stated 30 mins early". They will more likely think you're job is too easy and needs to have more put on it.

Make the most of getting paid for D2D's as well cos with 'moderisation' comes delivering D2D's without payment.

If the manager sees you finishing 45 mins early, as far as he's concerned, you can be doing another 45 mins work.

If you blitz your door to doors on a monday, the way most managers will see it, you have time to spare rest of the week, and give you more to do.

Personally, they have messed around with my start times so much I don't know if I'm going in early or not!

We have a fair few who come in early. They don't seem to understand it's their fault the job's fornicated. Makes me laugh too, that you hear the official RM line being that they want everyone to work the hours they're paid for. Yet in my office, people are told it's fine to make time, as long as you absorb! And then, because the absorbers leave early, they go before the miss-sorts are in. Often, the amount of mail left behind for their own walks is probably about the same amount as they have taken out to absorb!

The thing that annoys me is that our office still has job and finish, so any walk men making time get away with it because they're not seen. But I'm a driver, so obviously have to take the van back. On the few days I make any time, I get the DOM questioning me, despite the fact that most of the time I finish on time, if not a little over. I don't mind going over IF I make the time back on the easy days, but the DOM seems to forget this.

Im part time so start at 9-9.15 depending on the day and come in at my time - end up 9 times out of 19 being literally the last postie out the office and driver usually has to come back for my bags cause when hes makin his 'last call' im not long in the door! Others with same start time are coming in at like half 8 sometimes even earlier! In fact one guy came in at his time and I overheard someone say 'did ye sleep in or somethin?'.

Makes me look slow too :d'oh!
Same sort of thing where I am - because everyone else is coming in for free and using their own cars, I'm the one who looks bad/slow because I do the job properly. I might be finishing about 2 hours later but I'm happy in the knowledge that I'm doing the job the way it should be done and getting lots of overtime in the process. :nana

exactly,i cant work over ost days due to getting home for my kid
so im the one with mail at my frame every day
the ones either side coming in early and not taking breaks are clear
so it looks like im not trying

start early finish early nothing wrong with that, people rushing about to make time. in our office this translates to, "the walk doesn't take that long, i can see from my office what time people get back" these are the exact words my dim used to me when i said i was cutting off. so for not starting early [unpaid] not using my car and not running about like a d1ck he is trying penalize me. which is what i told him. working harder in our office just means you have time to do more work. my dim is lower than whale sh1t.

I start at least half an hour early most days and finish before my time every day so i have more free time in the afternoons to spend more time with the family, play golf, football manager etc etc. Not like the losers that are still delivering way into the afternoon. They are the ones that dont have a life. Why go slow and waste your day. Work for free pish. Not me. I laugh at the ones that milk it and live for delivering letters. Sad sad people.

Its the ones that take their time and dont pull their weight. Thats the reason why we are lapsing. Generally the posties that come in early are quick, efficient and set a good standard with no mistakes. Punt the ones that are not up to standard and milk thier duties. Then the office would run better and no lapsing would be required.

No. Because i will be working for free. My duty is 8 hours a day with a 4 and half hour delivery. My holiday reserve and day off cover do it in over 5. I can do it in 3 hours on a good day and 4 hours on a bad. Im certainly not working for free. My manager says f all because he knows the round is bigger than others and im much quicker than my covers. At home doing what ever i want or wasting my time and deliver letters all day. Normally in the rain or cold. Easy choice for me.

Actually, you'll find it's those that come in early for free are the same ones who cut all the corners - leave the office without clearing the missorts, leave packets without form lefts and while "looking efficient" are usually the ones who give posties a bad name.

Going slow on purpose is not acceptable either, doing the job correctly and efficiently within the RM framework is the best way.

Then RM have a valid reason to make the rounds even bigger - it's thanks to these guys I now end up working longer (4 out of 5 days over my duty time). Eventually they will all work their hours (as Crozier says) so coming in early will be futile.
Why aren't you cutting off? Isn't it because people like you that are working over that RM are continuing to increase deliveries?

and what about those of us who have had revisions making the dutys too long?
all walks are not even under pegasus,so when you get landed with a walk that takes you over your time will you come in earlier to compensate?
