The threat of an indefinite stoppage is a great move.

short term pain, long term gain.
short sharp shock, in my opinion, is the best way, far better than a day here an there.

Re: All out not ruled out
If the CWU are just asking for independant arbitration instead of specific terms and conditions then that should increase public support by negating any possibility of the government and RM challenging and slandering specific terms and conditions.
I also think that it's worth adding that unlike the striking miners in the past, striking RM employees will be spread out across the length and breadth of the country. Whereas most miners were concentrated in "pit estates". This will make it harder for chief editors of newspapers and news agencies to marginalise them. Also alot more of the population in this country will know someone connected to the strike. So imo it will be impossible for the government to brush it under the carpet.

instead of six days over six weeks, why not just one full week every six weeks!!!!! Which would have most impact?

Re: All out not ruled out
A tricky one this, me personally would be in favour of it but our office is classed as a strong office by area, yet i hear a worrying percentage cribbing about they can't afford it.... At the end of the day we must keep them on side.... Carefully co-ordinated strike days can have a massive effect i.e for example distribution/ processing out fri, delivery out sat, distribution/processing out mon delivery out tues. NO overtime performed on any of these days and all employees only loosing one day per week. They wouldnt know what to do with the back log after that and next to nothing would have gone out over a five day period.... Just a thought

Last time we were on strike, if you strike on the monday you lose it from the previous weeks wages - another underhand RM tactic.Cheetah wrote:A tricky one this, me personally would be in favour of it but our office is classed as a strong office by area, yet i hear a worrying percentage cribbing about they can't afford it.... All out won't work for longer than a week or so, there are too many posties who are the sole breadwinners - and i'm sorry but you can't live on nothing.

a all out strike would be a disaster, folk can't afford to go all out mortgages, credit cards etc, we have 25 posties in our office, i could guarantee by the end of the week their would be 5 or 6 going through the picket line and by the end of second week 10 - 15 would be back working, rolling strikes are the only way to go if you want to keep everyone onside IMHO

Re: All out not ruled out
I think this is being offered as a possibility becasue RM think it's great that we do 1-2 days pw, their leaked plan show on Newsnight shows they don't care and will hold on as long as it goes like that.
We do need to do more than 1 day each pw but all out is too costly and ho many will break it? 3days pw would be sustainable (?) and would do more damage than 'all out' with 30% eventually comming in after their paycheck with ZERO on it comes through the door. Actually it won't come through the door will it.

Re: All out not ruled out
Been out since the start, minus the first strike due to a technical/legal issue with the ballot. Don't even keep account of how many days I've been out, just don't want to think how much money I've lost, kwikpost wrote:you lot that are so keen for an all out strike can i just ask how much you've lost up till now.??
but this is a battle we can not afford to lose!

I said the THREAT of all out is a great move.
I doubt it will come to that though.
At least the union are sending a strong, comprehensive message that they would consider it if they had no other options.

Re: All out not ruled out
We have seen the plan
D2D payments scrapped
So if RM win then your going to lose about 2 days pay a month from now until you retire !
Thats about £1200 per year ( BASED ON 3 ITEMS P/W - - WITHOUT THE UNION IT'LL BE MORE LIKE 8-10 ITEMS P/W )
Add on everything else they'd like to remove i.e.- NDA / Good Friday Pay / Driving allowance / early start allowance / Overtime ban
Add on the UNPAID overtime you would be EXPECTED to do , or face the sack for "not working hard enough"
THINK LONGTERM......LOSE AND IT'LL COST YOU MORE
