out on delivery

Post by uprising95 »

the good old days

being able to chat to a customer for a few mins rather than give them there letters and run to the next house.

its not so good being pushed to the limit.

the time we get out the office
there's about 4 our before our time is up.
its clever how they worked the times

so we have to complete
but in those 4 hour you have to give it all you have got to get done for your time
no time for anything apart for work lol

Lucky you, on my delivery only contract, I only ever have around 2 hours left to do a four hour delivery. And then get bollocking for 'cutting off all the time' as they put it. :hmmmm
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

Only possible if in the unlikely event that you did not advise them you were unable to complete, and you did not advise a manager where you had left the excess mail.

However, as with anything to do with RM make sure you take a witness with you next time so that they cant accuse you of the same thing. Also tell your rep, did they attend the meeting, were you given the opportunity of them attending, were you even advised you could have a witness when he called you into the office. :hmmmm

Never left the office with more than 1 bag and a bundle under my arm and that was it!
Back to the DO for a break, sort the prelim, sort the final mail, finished 2nd delivery for 12noon.

Everybody happy.

What happened ?

I missed all that :cry , I used to enjoy having the whole street to myself except the odd Milkies and early morning dog walkers, all quiet and only me and my thoughts, | never felt knackered either, if you ever felt like a burst at least you can get away with it in the dark winter mornings, the most I ever had was two bags, three was exceptional, gosh however bad it was then, it wasn't as bad as it is now. :evil/mad

I can sympathise with all, or at least, some of my ex 'Comrades' I've left behind, those who did the job properly and didn't snitch on their workmates to get the cushy duty and OT numbers. Oh I would love to name names!
When the big 60 loomed nearer this year I just upped and left and I feel a lot better already just 4 months later. No nights, no earlies, can watch a game on the box without having to look at the clock in case extra time is played and no wet behind the ear so called Managers strutting around like mannequins barking out orders to men who were doing the job before they were out of their nappies!
Glad to be out of it but I do feel sorry for those of you with a few more years to do, more so someone just starting out in the job.
I do think the CWU should be upping the ante regarding Industrial Action as Crozier seems to have an almighty war chest to plug the holes and to see the Union buried this time. Rather than selective offices here and there, a short sharp shock, nationally would do it.
Anyway boys and girls, hope you all get something out of this. Cheers. :wave

My customers like me as they see me as a traditional postman who knows their name (so they get their mail and not someone else's with the same door number, or someone who doesn't live there any more) and always has time to chat. OK, I don't go out of my way to engage someone in conversation but, when I do chat, it's not a five-second thing. Anyway isn't it good PR?

Absolutely, but the buisness doesn't want it that way. We've been told that if you chat to customers it should be in your own time so you add however long you stopped for to the end of the duty! Glad you have the time Pete but in our DO the only day you have anytime is a Tuesday (sometimes) and then everyone wants to get round quick as cause they are knackered for the rest of the week. Everyday is 100%, jumping over walls, across gardens, through hedges, packets on door-step etc. Best ways to avoid chatting now there's a topic!
