It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Forget the KY - when you add the 3 offices together it would have produced a YES vote, so it begs the question why have the votes been taken in that manner and not area by area or branch by branch?

All 3 offices together are only a small delivery group and it is those sort of figures which make me think that although unpopular amalgamation is the anwer, larger offices tend to be more militant because of safety in numbers, whereas small offices are going to be run on a hail fellow well met basis - uncooperative equating to unpopular.

Quite agree brother dvbuk55, and it looks as if Thornbury PDO have pre booked themselves a free photoshoot and column in the next edition of the Royal Mail flagship paper COURIER :whistle :whistle :whistle

The problem is that RM have a US union busting firm that will find something wrong , it doesn't matter how perverse , vague or obscure it is ; so maybe the CWU have to verge on the side of caution in case of a legal challenge .

Just a thought - please don't jump down my throat .

The fact is that you cannot legally have a Branch ballot anymore. The subsection to the employment laws do not allow an aggregated ballot result. We have taken legal advice and thats a fact.

The only way you can have an aggregatted ballot is if it includes pay . Therefore things like London weighting we can ballot all the members in the London weighting area and have an aggregated result. Or if we have a national ballot then this too can be aggregated.

Thats why the employment laws need changing it works against trade unions.

The Union is a Democracy. They're entitled to vote any way they choose. I agree that they're wrong to vote no. But they're just as entitled to their opinions, as you and I, are to ours.

Fully agree with Andy there. Just because we disagree with the result does not mean we should expel them or ask them to leave. However, one thing does concern me is why was this office balloted anyway as looking at the results only 4 didn't vote and yet it was a No vote, surely this would have been suspected on the ground by local activists.

The other offices the disturbing thing is the return rate Yate over a half :evil/mad and Kenysham nearly a third did not vote at all - at least at Thornbury most of them did vote, even if we think they made a mistake.

I've spoken to some posties at my local SPDO's and they said they would'nt strike, they did'nt strike in 2007 and they would'nt this time, reason being the CWU does nothing for them, no visits etc.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet

This is a common complaint and one that needs to be addressed. The CWU need Branch Officials that are on full time release to have more face to face contact with their own members.

I have seem one of my officials more when we have attended demos than at work and I have only been on 3 demos in 7 years
