overtime availability for saturday

Post by the beautiful bd south »

I suggest all delivery postman put in writing to there managers that due to family commitments they will be unavailable to perform any overtime in the form of extended delivery on the coming saturday.

This writen notice should help avoid any unwanted pressure to deliver any extra mail there may be (although i cant think of any reason there would be lol).

madelin i am pretty sure they cant do that its your duty and they canot force you to work over your time.if i get in sat and find to much work i will be informing my manager that i am unable to finish my duty.then its up to him or her to decide if they want you to prep all of it and bring some back or cut of so as to allow time for you to cover all ur walk.dont be intimidated.

madelin4 just curious where do you work,ie what part of the country.
You seem to be getting a raw deal at your place.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

no such thing as being too nice to a manager the one we have at the moment must be some relation to leighton and co he talks and thinks like em all in all absolute pratt who gets away with whatever he can you have to stand up for yourself and for your office dont just lie down and take it

Madelin, i'm a rep at my D.O. On Saturday, if you go in at 5am, do the IPS as per usual, go to yr frame. Prep your duty in. Once you've prepped in the mail,go to your manager and tell him your not going past your time. (normally 10.30, 11am if you take a meal break) You then take enough work to take you up to your finish time. Any attempt to force you to work over is deemed as BULLYING. Overtime is optional. You don't need to put it in writing that you don't wish to work over. If your manager threatens you with conduct for not going over or threatens to change/move you of your duty politley ask him for a HR1 form. There is also a union B&H form you can get from your rep. The only way RM will win this dispute is by bullying and imposition.

A PLEA TO ALL POSTIES: ALL THE GOOD WORK DONE ON FRIDAY WILL BE UNDONE BY POSTIES GOING IN ON SATURDAY BEFORE THEIR START TIMES, TO GET A FLYER. THE SAME GOES FOR MONDAY. START TIMES WERE PUT THERE FOR A REASON, LETS STICK TO THEM

Am I right in saying that Posties are signed up to single duties? if so how can they take you off that duty.?
Also o/t is voluntary, so as long as you inform your Manager ( as advised in other posts ) that you cannot finish in your duty time, the problem is theirs not yours.
Any case they will have had some experience from the day before of delivering mail, perhaps they would like some more and deliver it themselves.

Evil c, yea , a lot in our office have signed for a duty, some people dont mind being moved, im not one of them... it gets me stressed!! i was trained on a rural b4 i signed for my present duty and when he was stuck he always came to me as first option to cover it, in the end it got to me and i went out with it..when a new person starts they cud move you of your signed for duty for 6 weeks to let the new start in , espically if there are no other vacant duties i.e. a part-time vacant one.. i feel at home on my walk, i have meet a lot of nice folk and on first name terms with a lot now, shud they not take into consideration if being moved stressed one b4 if they went to take duty of them?
