The 'we're all doomed' thing was my attempt at irony, Belial. I haven't been taken in, I was just typing my random musings on the subject of the level of profit vs the turnover it was derived from.

I know. I have friends who work in the finance industry.

But the figures quoted must be the same ones that RM presented to the CWU, to attempt to justify the decision to implement a pay freeze. If the union believes the true financial position of the group is nowhere near as black as it's being painted, why haven't we been balloted for strike action on the issue of pay ? We should be DEMANDING a pay rise but I haven't heard anything from the CWU on that score, and it's been weeks since RM set out their position :shhhhh
The CWU moves at it's own pace even we the membership cannot move it any faster than we want even though it must!. But take hart branches up and down the land are balloting us all soon their will be more ballots and action than royalmail nor the headquarters of the CWU can deal with!. It just takes time have faith and hart and fortitude and most importantly of all UNITY!.

I don,t really understand the finance side of things all I know is what I put on my back each and every day is getting heavier and heavier. I,ve said this before but why do you think they removed the scales from DO's, when we were told to stop wieghing (before the scales went) I carried on and after three or four weeks produced figures from various weeks in that year and comparable weeks from two years earlier to the cluster manager which showed a gradual increase in traffic not a decline, but would he belive it would he sh**e
When are they going to stop telling us this bulls**t or do they think if they carry on long enough we will in the end be brainwashed into beleiving this crap ourselves, it all boils down to making the buisiness look bad for the taxpayer in order to sell it off.

Or is all debate to be stifled on this forum and all posters must desist from having an alternative viewpoint ?[/quote]

Brother randompostman a very wee slight but significant observation as to your statement people think slavery was abolished in England 200 odd years ago.

In the space of some 46 years, between 1787 and 1833, Britain had not only outlawed the slave trade but also abolished slavery throughout her colonial possessions.

Well, yes, a large percentage of people are slaves to their mortgage, but there is one big difference between being financially shackled and true slavery: many of those who disagreed with Thatcher and her policy of allowing people to buy their council house WILLINGLY did so as soon as they got a sniff of how much money they thought they could make :d'oh!
They could have continued being council tenants and never put that shackle on themselves. But no, their personal greed outweighed their political principles and now all our kids are saddled with never having a snowball-in-hell's chance of a council house, consigning future generations to that shackle of a mortgage, or paying extortionate rents with private landlords :mad

Brother I totally understand the main gist of your posting and in one in which I am mostly in agreement with, and I can on re-reading what you had wrote see that yes as a statement slavery was indeed abolished in England 200 odd years ago, but the same can be said for Scotland in fact a British problem as it was a British government that finally outlawed and abolished the slave trade.

As to the role that the Scots played during the slave trade and in it's abolishment if you are interested can be viewed at:

In the mornings Royal Mail are using lower figures for trays of letters and flats compared to last years figures,
for manually sorted trays of letters a figure of 195 letters per tray was used last year but this year the figure has been dropped down to 150 letters per tray which is a decrease of 23%.
When you look at this, is it any wonder they tell us the volume of mail is dropping by 10% when in actual fact the mail is getting heavier. The figures are set in Royal Mails favour to try and get us to work harder and quicker, giving them reason to question over- time and make us feel inadiquate were is the respect?
