This is true,we have sequenced mail at our office.Start at 6am ips from 6:05am until 7:30-8:00 we're we have 20 mins prep time (this is at the discretion of our on floor rep, golden boy on £30 a week for shouting 'on the sorting' we had two but one left on EVR) then from 7:50 or 8:20-8:45-9:30 sorting the unsorted mech mail. You get three sequenced box's of mail. But usually you have up to 30 unsorted boxes of mail, which has to sorted by up to 5 sorters at 15 mins a box !
Oh the missort's arrive at between 9-915 which we have to sort usually straight away so it usually between 9:10 - 9:30 you finally get on your frame to finish your sorting, flats packets, redirects e.t.c. then you have the summer lapsing,65 deliveries covering 2 delveries with people having to travel halfway across our town to deliver 14 delivery points!! Start finish times are 6-2:30pm mon 6-1:30pm tues 6-2:30pm wed 6-3:00pm thu-fri 5:30-12:45 sat.
Most days people are booking. Its just not working. We're short staffed by quite a bit,all the new people we took on lasted a few weeks.24hr contract people that we're being expected to deliver mail that was'nt even sorted, some were out to 5:30pm! We lose most our sorters each morning to preping part time deliveries. So all in all the new system really works

i do a hybrid duty 9-30 till 6pm
they are now taking 3 of these out, the delivery will be done by part timers the collections will be done by the hub over 45 mins away
so much for protecting full time jobs, i await the final decision [in the next few weeks] but if this goes through then i think that will be the end of the union for me, the rep has said the same as well, they just don't listen

lol!! To make matters worse according to our managers we are'nt sorting fast enough,a fact that was proved wrong when they tested us and we all were above the national standard! Only 2 yrs ago we started at 5:30am and finished at 12:30am !! Its just pure madness

Keep those old torches we will need them and royalmail will be looking at buying ex miners kit the hat's with torches on them!.
We'll be needing helmets if we're to be delivering to certain areas in the late afternoon/early evening
It's been on the cards for a while - their aim is to have deliveries start later and merge collections into a single duty - fine for park and loop with a van - but how about the collection from boxes with an HCT on your way in - I truly believe RM have lost the plot - even managers locally have no faith in porposals both now and in the future, they, like most of delivery offices are merely toeing the line hoping that at some point somebody tells the king he's stark bollock naked.

Rurals in my office are timed to be 4 1/2 hours but can take up to 6 hours because of the size of them.

Only those who do a delivery seem concerned that the 3.5 hour delivery span is being flouted on a massive scale, both RM and the union seem to think that it is a good thing, on the one hand cheaper and more productive and on the other a protection of full time hours - I think they'll both be disappointed for different reasons.

 Have any of the 'Brains' behind these changes to the working hours factored in and allowed for extra time for driving/
moving to mid late afternoons, the roads are a lot more congested with School runs etc.And collection times will be a nightmare.

What concerns me is yes RM keep on moving the goal posts about several times a year, and you wonder why morale is so low in most of the offices.

What troubles me is that some guy at the top (a planner) will come up with a so called "lightbulb moment" thinking that a plan will work when in true hindsight this has to be agreed by the uso and the union. Everything changes and yes we all have to move with the times, i just wish RM would have a set plan, stick with it, and stop changing the rules every year or so.

Ever since they introduced later starting times, i have sometimes had a SD and never got to the door till after 1pm.I have raised this issue with my DOM but he just ignores the fact it will get delivered so it doesn't really matter what time of the day you get there. Well sorry DOM but the customer pays for a service and expects to get that service...the customer is basically getting s**t on, and theres nothing we can do about it!
