we should be impartial should we?

fedupSK wrote:have any offices had any problems regarding the delivery of BNP election leaflets? our office was briefed on monday that we had to deliver these several members declared they wouldnt deliver these and were told by dom :no no that apparently they had to find someone to deliver these and they would not be allowed to deliver other election leaflets.
after pressure from the cwu and it gaining local media coverage we have now been told we do have a choice if we want to deliver this rubbish.
once again quality management :hmmmm :lfo :cfo
We had a fella threatened on the Saturday for posting them. One of the first walks to have any BNP leaflets at all! Then flat out inconsistency from managers on Monday. One Lino says you have to take them and the other saying fine to leave them! :chuckle

Well, this is going to be inflammatory ( probably ) but I'm powerless to resist, so post & be damned

Customer: "Oi! Postie, why have you shoved this BNP crap through my door?"

Generic RM delivery operative: "I voz only obeying ze orders of my supervizing offizier!"

( names changed to protect the innocent ) :whistle
I don't suppose your mouth bleeds every 28 days, does it?

Why should we get the choice on whether to deliver BNP or not?

We don't get to choose what else we deliver. We should deliver BNP like we deliver the other election material.

It would be undemocratic not to.

You may not like what the BNP say or what they stand for but what right do you have to decide that other people won't hear their views.

They have as much right as any other political party to make their policies known.

Come voting time the people will decide.

If they get the majority vote they'll get elected, and quite right too - that's democracy!

You may not like the idea - but that doesn't mean you can influence the political process except by voting.

It's not a democracy if someone chooses which political parties you can vote for.

Incidentally, for the record, I don't agree with BNP policies and would never vote for them (along with the majority of the population) - but I do believe in their right to be heard.

you talk as if its only bnp that does not get delivered but a bnp postman supporter could quite easily say no to a socialist leaflet its about choice for all postmen on what they deliver as regards political leaflets if they dont wish to its up to the manager to get them delivered a walk does not go with out leaflets unless management fail in there jobs.

The difference is that fascists are in business to incite hatred and violence against
minorities, and ultimately to bring in concentration camps and genocide.
We can't say we don't know that. It has happened before, and could again.

As I'm sure you all know, we've already had to remove two threads on the subject of the BNP leaflets. But as this one hasn't got too bad yet, and it's likley to just reappear anyway. I'm going to Lock this one, instead of removing it. Because there may still be someone out there, who doesn't already know about the "concience clause".

We're not trying to stifle debate here. It's simply because these debates always descend into a slanging match. And we don't want anyone on either side of the debate, to have to put up with that kind of abuse. We could of course delete posts/threads (and indeed have done so), and even give out Warnings or Bans. But this is such an emotional subject. That I feel it's fairer, to just lock the thread, before it gets completely out of hand.

Please DO NOT start any more threads on this subject. If there are any more, we'll just delete the thread as soon as we find it. Hopefully, once the Elections are over, and no-one's in a position where they are asked to deliver items which they find objectionable. And as Randompostman has pointed out: There may be people out there, who find delivering Conservative or New Labour leaflets objectionable. Things will calm down enough, for us to have a proper discussion about Politics. We have managed it in the past, and I sincerely hope we can do so again. Once things have calmed down.

Please believe me: I don't believe that there should be ANY Political censorship. We should all be able to voice our opinions, and face a REASONED AND CIVILISED DISCUSSION about it. To simply censor certain Political Parties, is a very dangerous thing. Just look at what's happened in Countries where this has been allowed to happen. :hmmmm
