Advice on sickness procedure

I would be grateful if anyone could advise me on the sickness procedure. Recently I have had time off sick which has triggered a stage warning. The advice/help I require is initially I was sent home sick, so does this count as my first sick day even though I worked half a day (4 hours) before going home!!!!! or does my sickness start on my next working day. Although it was half way through it still is a day or part their of was it an accident on duty if so report it as such and get your union rep if you have one and if not why not join the union and get the area rep in!.

Thanks for the reply, the reason I asked for the advice on the forum is I recieved notice today of a stage warning for tomorrow morning, being an union member i've spoken to my union rep who was unsure if my first day of sick was the day I went home or the next working day and he would contact area rep to find out.

Make sure you take him in with you tomorrow he should get release to assist you and the time spent in the interview does count as part of the working day for you as well.

I was of sick injured on duty they still count the day its when you report going on the sick or accident ie next day.

It starts when you go sick, so the day you went home will be the date on your record, you say injury, if it was caused by an accident on duty, they can not use it against you, if was an injury that occurred while performing your duty then it can go on your sick record(ridiculous I know)

My understanding is that royal mail / cwu agreed on these stage warnings and if this is true then the union should be ashamed of itselve if they didn't sign up to it then they should be fighting to get rid of it.

Above are correct. If you had resumed the next day it would be counted as a part-absence
or 'panel out' as they are called in my MC, but if you continue off sick it is counted as the
first day of your period of sickness absence.

I know and it's a real eye opener too those who are just doing their jobs so don't think just because it is in the accident book/ERICA you are safe!.

The part-day will be recorded on your record but shouldn't be counted towards the warning. If it has been included then confirm that your manager has reported it correctly. Also, the number of days total is calendar days not working days and it won't include part-days.

or you could say you asked for unpaid leave for the rest of that shift if it makes any difference to your record

watch they don't try the half day as a full day routine - they got rid of a postie in Reading that way on a RTU , six months it took the Union to get him back as HQ had to make it so watertight ; RM wouldn't dare try it on a Industrial Tribunal .
