RM vans/ pouch boxes = same temption... one on wheels/one stationary but both CLEARLY visible and an open invitation to thieves and scumbags
But if they nick it from a Royal Mail van or Pouch Box - or even tow away the pouch box as happened in my area once - Royal Mail pays for the damage and repairing or replacing of them. If its nicked from your car the mail maybe covered but the damage to the car and the extra insurance costs because you have become a victim of crime come out of your pocket.

I can see why people use their cars, but can you see why people are against it, I can.

It works for you and good luck to you, but what happens to people covering you when you are absent etc, are there plans in place for the drivers extra workload, do they have pouch boxes or safe drops on your duty for people covering you. Will RM continue paying the Safe Drop sights for using them when they don't on most days, if so what happens then.

You are within your rights if you wish to use your own vehicle but I would only ask that those who do decide to use them understand the implications not only to themselves but their colleagues, clients and customers as well.

Which is why this FOI decision is well worthy of a read or re-read!

Two reasons for using cars the public transport is inept or none existent in the early morning and too finish early well as the pay and mod agreement said you cannot if you do you can take more too make your hour's up as you can get back quicker with your car thus you can do someone else's share!. How the petrol money makes up for your inconvenience and maybe you could do those big packets and take a few staff out to thier drop point's and maybe do the collections god royalmail could half thier fleet we such idiot's!.

i can understand up to a point a reluctance of discussing an on-going investigated case which may prejudice it's outcome, that was not the point at all.
the question was how many thefts from private cars had there been 2000-2007... unless they are all still under investigation from year 2000, i cannot see how a mail theft can be prejudiced from 2000 or 2001, or even 2003 for a variety of reasons.

if an investigaion is not ongoing, where losses are not recoverable, maybe some are kept "open", they are using it as an excuse to hide the figures, and cannot be a legitimate reason not to reveal the figures.

or are royal mail afraid of something?

Least we forget the following motion was passed at the Royal Mail Letters Conference , Liverpool 2008.

Motion 168 – Accepted

Conference applauds the Do The Job Properly campaign that was organised by the Outdoor Department last year and the advice that CWU HQ has regularly given to delivery members encouraging them not to use their private cars on delivery.

To this end, Conference reaffirms last year’s accepted proposition 156 and that any future agreement with Royal Mail on a new delivery model will result in a complete ban on the use of private cars on delivery.

The Postal Executive is instructed accordingly.

encouragement does not have legal clout. prohibition does. the only organisation to stop this is royal mail themselves.
