Refuse all mail not 100% RM

Post by Broxi51 »

What would happen if we all returned any mail with TNT, DHL or whatever back with a written statement on the letter stating " Refused. Will not open any mail unless it is 100% Royal Mail handled".
Thought I would maybe try with any bills like council tax etc and see what happens :Very Happy
In a perfect world and we all did it then it would be very interesting.

don't think you can because royal mail get paid by dhl to send on the mail collected by dhl from banks and the like, which is in effect accepting a contract by payment to convey and deliver, even though it is not the full amount. a monthly bank statement for example on a current account for peronal customers, usually consists of 2/3 pages, and a heavy user of transactions can consist of 5/6 pages. anyway, dhl pick up these statements, sort them and pass them onto royal mail, and royal mail get paid 13pence per letter.

I think he meant refusing as a customer which has some merit, but would be difficult to run as a campaign.

It's a bit dodgy because all those companies will just fine/take you to court if they don't get their money :hmmmm but all the rubbish we have to deliver from the DSA could be returned (see how Sky like it whenever all their advertising gets returned to them). :whistle

But they cant fine me since I didnt receive the letter in the first place. I have returned the letter to the company stating my preference for RM to handle my mail 100% and they will get it back and should send me another. If they dont and try and fine me then it would go to court and that might make it legally interesting.

I meant as a customer and having the right to refuse what cr*p I keep that come through my letterbox and what to bin. Only instead of binning it, I would return it to sender with the message written on the front of the envelope. Refused. Will only open mail that has been 100% handled by RM. As Disgruntledpostie said it will p*ss Sky off if we all returned our mags or advertising bumpf that has TNT or DHL on it. If we all did it then it would cause some businesses to switch back to RM for collection and sorting.

i already have and do return all marketing mail not sent using royal mail .maybe some of you may have come across it.i write all over the envolope.as for being taken to court if companies dont get thier money.its been year since ive recived a bill through the post except the usuall water rates and council tax and they are easily identifiable.its all s**t send it back.
unfortunatly or fortunatly it cost royal mail even more to return it.kill two birds with one stone here. :dance

looking at the bills i get with tea en tea on it, i got barclaycard - so i cant do owt with that. i get lloyds monthly bank statement - could do something with that by going online, but i been told once i switch, that's it.. erm, occasional hospital letter letter - could ask them to email me, but they don't have external link, only local intranet.. i thought government mail was tnt - how come they got royal mail frank?

what else do i get? occasional lloyds bank insurance services offer - tnt most prob.. carphone warehouse offers... ive changed over to online with bt for house phone... it all adds up. its a lot of money really, say it costs 50pence to send a bt bill, and 20million bills get sent a quarter. ten mill. 3.3 mill a month.

the only offer from sky i get is trying to get me to subscribe lol. and some other junk firms somehow get my address from other firms lol.

i get all bills online, except my POST OFFICE credit card, but can all be done online.strangly they use royal mail.water and council tax.everything else is junk and sent back.hospital appointment will arrive franked surely.even the largest hospital wouldnt send out enough appointment cards to bother tnt to pick up.the junk is all national mailing and very easy to spot.
on a related note every four weeks one of our door to door items is from sky.i cancelled along time ago when it got expensive .now this thing i deliver every month without fail offers broadbabnd line rental calls and telly.so i went on their web site and they dont do anything but the satalite in this area...wot a frickin waste of time money effort and trees

thats another mail i get, from bt offering tv and broadband thing lol. get it every month. i dont mind getting one, but when it goes on and on, it kind of interferes with my life haha. i would have thought they would have the sense by now to realise by now i am not interested...i didnt put my name on their list in the first place, so why should i tell them to take it off? i always believe that if i want something, i ask for it. its the same with email spam, forever getting the stuff, and its them causing carbon footprint in energy generated sending them in the first place lol.
sometimes its interesting what a company offers and what the latest technology is so i dont mind them ones. i get other stuff from aviation site, i only registered with them so i can view their eco fuels reviews. some interesting and informative information around too. biofuels our government try to promote is just a token measure. the serious stuff is going on where the public are not aware of other day to day activities. our biofuels consist of mixing in biofuel with fuel, 95/5% ratio. america have produced a 95% synthetic fuel purposly designed for their airforce, and costs around 45cents a gallon. tut, and i thought biofuels were created to cater for the public :cuppa and i dont see the logic of using 150% fossil energy to create 5% bio energy..when it costs more money to produce the bio than its worth.

capital one mail once a month i get too for some strange reason, havent seen mbna for a while. water rates only comes once a year through the post, and pay it at the postoffice. same with the electricity, i pay at postoffice, the money companies say i can save online, would cost me more because by the time i boot up pc and stuff, costs the savings in electricity in viewing the bills, and if i needed to check something at a later date, say phone bill or needed to retrieve a numberor check something. and i cant check last years electricity if im comparing the present days costs with another provider, because they delete it. so having paper bill is beneficial after all. so when they say save a tree and go online, its bollix cos going online uses another energy.

what im finding now is, that when people were saying that people preferred paying over the counter at postoffices, so oaps or whoever can have a chat and a social function, lots of people cannot do that now as the office they used got closed down, and the nearby main post office in a town simply does not have the time to chat. i know i changed my gas over to direct debit cos it did save me, and decided to keep the leccy on paper cos it would create a transaction and benefit a post office. well, in theory at least.

Depends how they sort and dispatch the mail I think. If done centrally at trust HQ then yes TNT would do it - they boasted in 2007 that they had won 2 contracts from NHS trusts in South Wales.
