Cutting off and refusing to work overtime

Post by postghost »

So as it stands in my office at the moment, my DM is refusing to pay me any overtime because he doesnt believe my walk takes 4 hours. 1st off, what can I do about this?

He has told me that none of the other part timers have an issue completing for their time (given the fact they come in about an hour early, use their cars, prep d2ds at home and in some cases DONT claim OT for fear of being "questioned")

Enough is enough. What is the official stance I can take with regards to this??
If I say I will not be working over my time, he has told me to stream the mail. Can he do this?? This process takes ages and doent make much difference tbh.

I know the drill though. I wouldnt leave mail if I genuinely have sufficient time to deliver it all and still have 15 minutes to pouch off.

What legal rights do I have however if I take out the mail and decide not to work over my time? Can I request the manager arranges cover for the rest of the duty by giving him sufficient notice?
What if I was out on delivery and I had personal circumstances arise at that meant I had to cut off even if it was before my finishing time?

Really hoping to get something concrete on this. So many conflicting opinions on this from guys in my office. Very , very frustrating. :arrrghhh

Cheers in advance

quote the above

It is up to your DOM to prove you wrong not the other way round
get timed on a day you believe finishing on time would be an issue.
mostly get your rep in on this nice and early.
consider a grievance, seriously, this should be given some thought.
Confused... You won't be, after the next episode of. SOAP

follow bogstandards advice. this is a common problem in the delivery office where i work anyone who wants to finish on time are subjected to sorting tests threatened with capabilty issues and generally made to feel very uncomftable.the local cwu are trying to sort this out but generally people are enduring it as they are too scared to fight it.with the end of finacial year and easter coming up there is going to be a lot of pressure on individuals.

Im am sure The Official rule ,whilst forgetting about emergencies that could arise on your delivery and are unforseen,If you beleive that you will not coplete the work before you go out the office you must inform the line Manager.

Thats when the Sh-t will hit the fan,try being reasonable, ask them to come out with you if that helps, point out the problems on your walk,if that dont work and CWU dont help then you are by yourself.

good luck

what ever you do make sure you are out to your time, the biggest problem in most offices is people coming in early because the walks are to bloody big and working for nothing.
good luck to you in your stance but just make sure you cover your self by working to the correct procedures.

Firstly you have to decide first thing if you do not want ot or think you cannot complete the delivery this will give the harraser (dim dum) time to find someone to do whatever 'he' thinks you cannot complete in your time if he bullies you into accepting more than you think you can do in your time consult your rep.
make sure that you will have enough work to take you to your finishing time
do not come in early, take your break , use the van to accelerate you to your delivery start and run your bags to the bins or have them conveyed to you
finnish with enough time to be brought back to the office to pouch off and render any mail returned to by customers as 'unknown ' to be killed off
and of course if you do have a need for a comfort break then you can return to the office if you wish as i don't or won't 'impose on anyone as you work for royal fail not anyone else

I cut off when it requires me to do so, and I found that in the past, managers would discriminate against me (or anyone else) who DID brake off, I have complained about this to our DOM.

My stance now is any manager who questions me about cut off time etc, I offer them the opportunity to come out with me on delivery and test me that same day or any time as I have nothing to hide (which I dont) In fact I encourage them to come out with me and test me if they have issues with me cutting off.
I cut off fair and square and do the job properly (no car or coming in early etc)

I have no desire to work over my contracted hours, which is my right. Managers get pi55ed off with it as it sometime means they have to go out for once and deliver!! :wave

The problem with me is I can do the walk in 3.5 hours but being on a 30 hour (6 hour day) contract and on a different walk every week its the prepping that's the problem(takes a few days to get use to the frame) after traveling time 15 minutes !!! half hour break,15 minutes pouching of, it only leaves me 1 hour 30 minutes to prep, do packets, re directions, D2D,kill offs, tie up and weigh bags.In other words its impossible, :mad :mad :mad and now there refusing to pay overtime so it looks like its cut of time for me in the future. :dance :mfo :mfo :mfo

Exactly why do O/T if they arent going to pay you for it?!

Work to your contracted hours, and let the managers worry about covering your cut off. Thats what these people get paid to do, "manage". :arrrghhh

I agree, In our office managers discriminate against you if you cut off, people tend to get 'singled out' so to speak as a' bad egg' I have witnessed it and experienced it personally.

Quite pathetic really.

But if we all stick together they would not single anyone out and they would have to deal with all one and the same.

Write a letter outlying your grievance keep it handy and the Next time that this happens go and get you rep in the office with you and tell the Dom to stop victimising you or he will leave you with no choice but to give him the grievance letter,

if he try to give it "I just doing my job and if I think that you don't need o/t then I have every right to challenge you" :Boo hoo!

Reply!

"Not in the manner that you have and are using" :speak to the hand

If he doesn’t back down give him the grievance letter. :Applause

Hope that helps!
