I think theres 1 in 9 Elms mate,cost £4Million,spent £4 training Romec how to fix it when it breaks down alot
Last i heard it was only sorting work for SW1 and SE1 offices.

We're supposed to have one over here but I've never seen any evidence of it.

I'm afraid that it must be one of those urban legends like managers with backbone or traffic wardens with a heart or doctors without an ego

We have one installed in our Mail Centre.
Operators are being trained shift by shift at the moment.
ROMEC are the contractors who install these machines while Royal Mail Engineers (RME) are the ones who maintain and fix them when they breakdown. These are totally different engineers.
Seems to be working very well so far and have been told it can sort 40,000 flat items per hour.
Several people in the office have taken an EVR package as manual duties are lost to this machine.

fine for the first few months but as the bearings wear out and then the failures start machines are laid up whilst the engineers repair them ...and theres a whole lot of bearings and motors in there to fail (but some might say there infalable ) and as these move at rather more 'pace' than a conveyer system 'alla car plant' a lot can and will go wrong no backup as theres a space problem and they are after all rather large of course as the wear takes place how accurate will they be after a few 'miles'

As accurate as they are after 0 "miles", is the obvious answer.

Spares aren't a problem anyway, as all this automation reduces to easily stockable and repairable sub-assemblies, and as for "pace", RM has used high-speed processing equipment for years.

from Gatwick to London when a Tops 2000 breaks down.

Nah - probably a 'skilled' engineer

Actually it only took three hours to get the tool, then another three hours
with half a dozen engineers gathered round a screen, scratching their heads.

That's terrible........ normally string 'em out for much longer than three hours......

Come on teaman get real the accuracy has to be in question after a period in the workplace and after a few spaner monkeys have been let loose you only have to look at present equipment as to the accuracy obtainable and it's mostly down to maintance schedule (lack off) let be honest royal fail will only repair it when it fails to costly to do it correctly just look at our vans and equipment around the office
