When will I get my post in Bristol?

Post by holdon »

Hello,

Seems Bristol got it worse than most with the weather, I haven't had any post in almost a week. When might things get back to normal? I'm expecting a parcel and small packet will these come quicker being that they may come in a van? What happens if this ice stays there a few more days, does nothing get delivered?

Thanks in advance and good luck out there!

I'm not from Bristol. But what I can tell you, is that as soon as it's safe to deliver the Mail, they will get it out to you ASAP. In at least one area, they did try to get the Mail out, despite the weather. But it resulted in 4 RTAs (2 vans written off), in one day. But officially, they shouldn't have even atempted it.

The problem is, that all the RM vehicles are 2 wheel drive. So taking them out in these conditions, is potentially dangerous. And even if they don't have an accident, there's the risk of them getting stuck. But that's only where the snow is bad. Elsewhere it's still getting through.

I'm sorry that it's causing problems for you. If you have a 4x4, it would be worth you going up to the DO, to see if it's arrived, and collect it yourself. But don't risk it without a 4x4. We only suspend deliveries, if it's too dangerous without one. Please don't put yourself at risk.

Tragically highlighted by this report from STV

http://news.stv.tv/scotland/74731-mothe ... -icy-path/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

A family have criticised Scottish council officials after a mother slipped on an un-gritted icy pavement and died.

An inquiry has been launched into the death of Isabel McCulloch, 55, who lapsed into a coma when she banged her head after slipping on an un-gritted path.

Her children - Douglas, 23, and Donna, 26 - are seeking legal advice after claims that the council only salted the path hours after Mrs McCulloch's death.

Riding instructor Donna said on Sunday: "In our opinion, the council were at fault and we are taking legal action. We have been told there was a lack of salt and this is not acceptable.

"Our father is devastated as he and our mum were inseparable. It is almost as if two lives have been lost here."

Husband Donald, 65, a retired lift engineer, was too upset to talk about the tragedy near the family home in Kirriemuir, Angus.

Angus Council has ordered an investigation but insisted there was no grit shortage.

Mrs McCulloch, 55, was walking her dogs Jet and Ben when she slipped.

She returned home but suffered severe headaches and was unable to walk.

At Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, X-rays showed bleeding on the brain. She slipped into a coma and died before doctors could operate.

Son Douglas said: "My mother fell in a busy route near a school. This could easily have happened to a child. If the council should keep any pavement clear, it was this one.

"They only salted the pavement on Thursday after my mother had died. But by then it was too late."

Donna added: "We will be making sure the council are held to account for this."

Mrs McCulloch was a grandmother to Douglas's six-month-old twins Paige and Ryan.

Kirriemuir SNP councillor Iain Gaul said: "This is a terrible tragedy. I fully expect Angus Council to carry out a thorough investigation."

David Sawers, chief executive of Angus Council, said: "There is no shortage of salt in the Angus area. But I'll be instructing a report into this tragedy as soon as possible."

You can always volunteer to help out royalmail as their is plenty of one hour contracts and you life maybe worth less than those who consider it too dangerous after all the mail must get through at any cost too life and limb!.

Holden only asked how long it was likley to be, before the post returned to normal. And also, whether it would make any difference, that the parcels would be coming by van, rather than with the normal post. It was a perfectly reasonable question. Considering that he doesn't know RM's procedures.

There's no need to get angry about it. After all: That's what the Customers section is for. So that Customers can ask us questions, and get the information they need. For example: Now Holden knows that all the RM vehicles are 2 wheel drive, so it's not safe to send them out in bad snow or ice. But if someone has their own 4x4, they could go and check if the Post is waiting for them at the local DO. Because the Lorries travel on the Main Roads, so they're more likley to get through, than the local deliveries. :hmmmm
