Who didn't see that one coming :hmmmm

Still, Northern Ireland looks set to miss all the snow, so we are just delivering as normal (the only problems are if mail doesn't get over from the mainland but that hasn't happened yet).

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

our manager also told us that we have to make up the hours to them sometime this week for the 2 days that we could not go out so if we go over our time we have to get on with it and not book it.

Get on to the union rep or Area IR Rep A.S.P. - thought there was no clawback of hours allowed!

After 2 days of no deliveries I went out with 160 kg today. Didn't finish it all and went an hour over time after slipping and sliding round and waiting for more bag drops. I will claim the time tomorrow and wait to see if they pay-up or try to be their usual selves. :hmmmm

If my Manager said I could only go home if I made the hours up,I would tell him to F*ck Off and find some work for me to do for the rest of the day, because I'm not on flexi time.
As there is no work in my office to keep me or anyone else going, I would just end up drinking tea and chatting which is easier than doing 2 to 3 days worth of mail for no extra pay.

No. 95/2009
Ref. 60000
Date: 6th February 2009

TO: ALL BRANCHES WITH POSTAL MEMBERS

Dear Colleague

Severe Weather Conditions - Pay & Modernisation Agreement

CWU HQ are receiving numerous reports and enquiries that as a result of the severe weather conditions, Royal Mail Managers are attempting to insist that in cases where our members are being sent home early from work due to unsafe conditions for delivery, collections, road services etc, the Pay & Modernisation Agreement and in particular the flexibility clause within that agreement, is applicable.

There is no provision within the Pay & Modernisation Agreement for the clawback of any time as a result of what is tantamount to an 'act of God' i.e. the severe weather conditions that the UK is currently experiencing.

We have had further reports that some Managers are attempting to have our members take annual leave, make good the time, or even in some cases Special Leave 'C' (unpaid) where they could not attend work through no fault of their own. Once again, our representatives should be clear that this has not been agreed with the Postal Department at CWU HQ.

Any enquiries should be addressed to the DGS (P) Department quoting reference number 60000.

Yours sincerely

Dave Ward
Deputy General Secretary (P)
