Courier Headline - Modernise or Decline.

Post by greynut »

Forgive me. But the headline in January’s Courier newspaper states: “Modernise or Decline.”

My confusion stems from the fact that we voted on a pay and modernisation deal last year didn t we? Why, now, do we need private money to modernise?

Where is the £1.2 billion loan that was promised to start modernisation if Royal Mail employees voted to accept the pay rise? At my office we are still driving vans that are 7 years old now and are a disgrace to Royal Mail.

If the government simply tackled the pension deficit in the same manor that it has with the banking system and then senior management began to use the £1.2 billion as it promised, then maybe we would not need a private company to help us. Oh yes, and maybe 99% of staff wouldn t be pissed off. :arrrghhh

Simple answer is senior management couldn't organise a p**s up in a brewery. Royal Mail is in the state it is due to years of mis-management from the top downward.

The £1.2billion is still sitting waiting to be spent, it's all in the End of year accounts but they did manage to spend £500 million (page 75 of the accounts 07/08) on what I don't know, maybe one of the managers could let us know :Very Happy

The £500 million prob went on bubbly at the shareholders meeting lol. The goverments got to have a hang over to come up with another privatisation idea. What gets me is every industry thats ever been privatised seems to be worse for it and the general public ( don't & didn't we as the tax payer own all these industries in the first place ?) end up paying more and getting a worse service.

Current PDA's cost £5 million, you'd think with economies of scale etc we would pay a lot less than £1500 per unit. Anyway we won an £8 million contract from BT to deliver the tracked home hub stuff and phones so we actually got new ( 10 year old technology used by everyone else for years ) equipment and made money !! though we have to buy the PDA's upfront so still £495 million missing. Golden handshake to the outgoing chairman ?

well you could try but I lay odds of £1 of your money to £10 of mine that the answer will include the expression "Commercial Confidentiality"
