They are in the process of building an extension to the ramp at my office and today they were fitting what looked like hydraulic platforms, are these for the double decker artics I keep hearing about?
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet

I dont think double deckers are any higher for offloading. they have internal lifts inside the actual artic.k66yla wrote:They are in the process of building an extension to the ramp at my office and today they were fitting what looked like hydraulic platforms, are these for the double decker artics I keep hearing about?
The extensions on the ramps are probably just to make it more effective for loading and unloading.
i might be wrong though, without seeing what you mean then i dont really know :)

The lorries have a tailgate that goes up the the top deck, so there would be no reason for to adapt any loading ramp (unless it's to create space at the top for the lorry to fit
but you'd assume they just cut a hole in the roof).

We have those on the loading bays at Mount Pleasant. They are used to extend into the artics,k66yla wrote:They are in the process of building an extension to the ramp at my office and today they were fitting what looked like hydraulic platforms, are these for the double decker artics I keep hearing about?
both single and double decker. The top deck of the double decker does come down, but not right
down to the level of the loading bay.
Apparently RM have bought even bigger double deckers, but have now found they may not be able
to use them in London due to height restrictions in underpasses.

It doesn't surprise me that they don't do their homework properly.

I heard from my union rep that RM do not have the correct operator's licence to use them.

I pull these all week. The DD trailers are 2 types a 75 and the new 92 york versions, the 92 is 16ft tall takes 45 top deck and 47 bottom deck straight through compared to the 15 swan neck and 30 top and bottom deck. Some bays in some depots will not take the 92 DD's as they are low by 1ft. They dont require a different licence just the 92 needs a 44ton rated unit to pull it whereas the 75 only needs a 38ton unit. Loading times are 40-50 mins as heavy yorks such as trays must remain on the bottom deck. Hope this helps guys

I was wondering about that. Some delivery offices have enough problems getting van in and out. I know that the lorry drivers can turn them on a sixpence but I honestly can't see them getting past the gates in my office. The 7.5 ton lorries have enough trouble at the moment.
