Help locating post office needed
Hi, Just found your site this morning. I wounder if any of you guys can help me?
I have received a letter that has been posted in the UK and required to be signed for upon delivery. This letter is a threatening letter, which is trying to extort money from my family. I want to know if I can trace the post office it was sent from using the numbers on the sticker applied when it was posted.
There are numbers at the bottom of the sticker, they are 223552 on the left and on the right 1-32267294
Thanks very much for any help anybody can offer.
Nick

I am not sure if its possible to identify the original post office it got sent from TBH as it may have been sent through a Meter Pouch to a sorting Centre or just popped into a Post Box so it would be hard to tell.
Also those numbers don't sound like anything that would need signing for coming through Royal Mail. Normally most things that need signing when going through RM system are of this type of format:
A = Letter
X = Number
AA XXXX XXXX XGB
Have you tried the return address on the reverse if there is one and its a Box Number, google can sometimes find it.

If it's extortion then you really should contact the police (or IB may also investigate) because that would be illegal.

You quote the bottom line of numbers on a horizon label.mutual wrote:Hi, Just found your site this morning. I wounder if any of you guys can help me?

Look at the line above this and that will show (1) the date posted (2) the postage paid and (3) the Postcode district where the item was posted.
There may well be several Post Offices in that Postcode District but it will give you some indication where it was posted.
Give us the letter(s) and number(s) of that Postcode District and we should be able to tell you which town, city etc. it is.
If necessary contacting the Police and/or Royal Mail might esttablish the actual Post Office which is probably encoded in that last line on numbers.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Hi guys, thanks for all the help, unfortunetly my postie attempted to deliver, I was not in so he left me a card to advise me. However he stuck the P739 Notice left sticker right over the sticker the post office stick for the stamp, which has all the details on. I have been able to make out those numbers I gave you, after careful peeling away, however after your good advice I can make out the postcode underneath by holding it up to a bright light. At least I think its the first part of the postcode TQ14 am I right in assuming this is the post offices postcode. Cos I cannot imagine that TQ14 has many post offices. And if they have a camera in that shop I will be getting the police involved.
can anybody confirm this would be the postcode.
By the way The orange signed for sticker is in perfect condition and its number is clear however I cannot track it backwards just forwards to my address.

Hi thanks for that,I tried to pull the sticker off prior to your good advice, and it has already started to damage the sticker underneath. However by holding it up to the light I can read it. I will try the post office on Monday. By the way TQ14 appears to be a small post office in Teignmouth Devon, if That is a postcode ? Anybody confirm it.
What a great forum thanks all you posties out there. My postie will get a bottle of scotch this xmas to say thanks. :)

Get in touch with the Post Office Supplies Department at Swindon quoting the 13 digit Recorded Delivery number ( ll nnnn nnnn nGB ) asking which of the five TQ14 Post Offices that label had been supplied to, then contact that Post Office about CCTV footage on the day of posting, involve the local police and, with a bit of luck, the extortionist will be behind bars before Christmas.

Investigations Branch (IB)
As disgruntledpostie1 pointed out: You could do with informing Investigations Branch (IB). If they can't find out where that letter came from, no-one can. They are there to investigate any Mail based crimes. And have been doing so, since before the Police Force was created. They can be contacted at : securityhelpdesk@royalmail.com
Considering the nature of the letter. I emplore you, to contact the Police as well. You can't let people get away with this type of thing. They could be doing exactly the same thing to others.

running away with the spoon again?
a sense of reason and logic needed again.please dont read everything at face value .sit back and think abaout it.
when "mutual" says " extort" he probably means theirs a dispute about a sum of money.in his eyes its extortion,in the senders its whats rightfully owed.
its oh so very simple to trace exactly where a registered letter is from for royal mail or the police.
No self respecting extortionist is going to send a registered letter.its so very stupid to even think for one moment they would.after all why send it registered?answer.cos the sender want to make sure he gets it and can prove somone in that house signed for it{if the postie has done his job correctly}.
this is the reason why "mutual" hasnt called the police.he wants to find where thay live .
if theirs a murder/death/kill soon in the tq14 area i will be the first to slow hand clap you all.
after all it is my neck of the woods

It wouldn't be sent from someone's Home address, would it?
It would be posted from the Business premeses. And he'd already know where that was. Still, I could be wrong. But I'd rather give someone the benefit of the doubt, and give whatever help and support I can. Than simply dismiss the situation.
After all: There are plenty of arrogant, and stupid criminals out there.

I always wondered if "Dogbait" liked Sci-Fi films like Demolition Man. Pity he is not around to confirm.
