Royal mail faking delivery times?

Post by Crumo »

Just a quick question, does this go on a lot?

I had a parcel coming from Amazon with Guranteed 1PM delivery
(I can get my postage refunded if it isn't)

I double check the tracking number on the royal mail site and it says "Delivered at 11:35:00AM"

Lo and behold 1PM comes and passes and still no parcel, then at 1:20PM my parcel arrives, with my delivery time having been faked.

What on earth is going on.

EDIT: I must have clicked the wrong forum before posting this, sorry!

Not a lot but if it does its not usually the posties fault. Most of them know when they will be at a persons house and if it is going to be after 1pm they will tell their boss. Sometimes their boss tell thems to take it anyway knowing it will "fail"

Always double check the time on the card and write in the correct time and if it is after the guaranteed time - yes you can claim call 08457 740 740. Lines are open from 8am - 7.30pm, Monday to Friday, and 8am - 2pm on Saturdays

- Again not the postie as they can't update the tracking system when they are out delivering. It was probably his office that updated the system incorrectly.

- Probably everything I have described above - be kind to your postie though, without you knowing he has probably done everything to try and get it to you on time but was forced to deliver it late.

not once in 6 months have i entered a time next to the signature and only a couple of times has the customer and both times they where for standard recorded where the time dosnt matter.....

what i can say is 9am specials in our office are never delivered on time...mostly because they arrive after 9am and the rest are for businesses that arnt even open till 9.

as i said previously were all late somtimes with the 1 o'clockers but nobody has every complained or even enquired .there never more than a few minutes at most over..and if it is late we couldnt care less it just means the sender can get a refund of postage if they want it.....posties probably couldn't care enough to fake a time
Then you should. I always enter the correct time. Why? Because that's the way it should be done. It doesn't matter if the item is a pre-nine o'clock special, a one o'clock special, recorded delivery or International signed for, if it requires a signature you get a signature, that is what the sender has paid for. The box for the time to be entered is there for a reason. Sometimes the item is late, but, while I do care, there's not much I can do about it. Don't tarnish all posties with your own low standards.

I agree, why would you not put the time in and if you are going to miss then you can always redesign your walk to accommodate the SD's.

It clearly says in the customers section:

Print Name:

Check Time & Sign

I was taught at my induction that the customer checks the time we write and changes it if they disagree. If they were meant to write the time surley it would say something along the lines of "Insert time & Sign"

The time box is for the postie to fill in, when the card is returned to the D.O. to be scanned the time is also logged. Perhaps you should of paid more attention at your induction :cuppa

Yeah but they also say at your induction many things, like how you will be coached and assesed regulary *given 6 month assesment form* yeah like that's ever gonna be used lol.

I fill the time in if it's being sent back, just to cover myself if the customer wails that they were in at a certain time, but otherwise if they've received it meh. Half the time the customers don't even print, or sign in the printed space so the forms are relatively lax when scanned in anyway.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

And maybe the induction training they get now is not what you (or I) received. Whenever I started I got one day induction then out to the DO to shadow a postman for a week then left to my own devices but I did get an A4 sheet with important details on it to refer to.

Royal mail faking delivery times?

9'o clock specials are always late from our office... we have to stay until the misorts are in so we are never allowed to leave until 9 anyway. Something the management failed to take into consideration or just ignored when they came up with later starts and longer sorting times. Even the drivers dont get out til after 8.30 so they are unlikely to get them delivered on time... even if you could convince them to take them :arrrghhh

I think the point is, that since the Pay and Mod agreement came in and our start times became later therefore delivery times later the specification of RM`s Special Delivery service stayed the same. If we are not due to finish until 3.15 (rural office) 2.15 normal, how can we meet the delivery specification? What is happening at offices in my area is that the specials are being confirmed by exception (think its called that) That means ALL the specials are confirmed delivered before 1.00pm. They only get scanned as non delivered when they are returned to the office.

The PHG,(Postman Higher Grade) are instructed to confirm all special deliverys BEFORE the card is actually back. This is becoming common amongst all delivery office's at the moment.
The special delivery target(s) is under scrutiny at the moment and that is why people are instructed to confirm early(whether the card is back or not).
The deadline is 13.00,(although the extension i think has been upped to 14.00).Royal Mail requested a 15.00 deadline but was turned down. If you are a 6.15 starter than with your meal relief you should be back by 14.33.The later start times have obviously not taken this into consideration.
The other issue is if the item is scanned as "signed for",but the card is not back, and when it does the actual item is a "docket left".If our customers,(thats EVERYONE and not the top 100!),check the on-line "track & trace" it shows up as "signed for",but they have a card telling them they were'nt in and to pick it up from the enquiry office.
Hence the aggro the enquiry office officer gets on a busy Saturday morning.

There's no such thing as PHGs anymore. That grade was abolished with the Way Forward Agreement, along with the A/G grade. The OPG grade covers both now.
