Dirty looks

When I started (and this is the same for all new postmen, when they first start), they come in at the times they are contracted to do, but then they get no end of grief from the rest of the people in their district, because they are claimed to be 'holding everyone up'. It is not the new postman's fault: all they know is that they are expected to work from x hours until x hours, but they get tongue-lashed by the driver and the other postmen who rely on the driver to be taken out. I have seen several new postmen driven to distraction by this situation. Personally, once I started to experience this, I went to my manager and told him I would need to come in earlier, and explained that if I didn't do so, I would not be able to get my work done on time: he was okay with this, and from then on, we have always both negotiated with each other, regarding the times that I come in on a morning, with changes made, as situations change, throughout the year.
Got the same problem in my office, most of the senior men I've spoken to who come in about 15 minutes early(and dont NEED to),say "its only 15 minutes".They cant seem to grasp that the roll on effect of them doing this is that new people starting the job who generally have much heavier walks feel pressured to come in early as well to keep up!We cant expect new recruits to make a stand and do the job properly, to save our jobs, when experienced posties who should know better are carving it up themselves.
I've been in the job over twenty years and have lost a lot of respect for most of the people I work with over this issue. When the going got tough and we all needed to stick together the majority turned round and said "nah' every man for himself"

The issue for me is that I was told when I started the job that most of my mail would be thrown-in for me, but this is generally not the case: I have to throw my own walk in. The issue in my office is not people coming in early: the issue is that there is a general staff shortage at the moment - that's all. I do come in early - as agreed with my manager, and I also get paid for it, as absence overtime.

Busy day again in our office. We managed to get off the ips earlier today so it helped to get us out a bit earlier too. s**t loads of magazines, includung National Trust. We were told earlier this week that we will be getting MORE large flat frames, and these will replace some of the smaller letter frames we currently have. Office is roughly 60/40 split, ie 60% large flats, 40% letters i'd say so should make the ips a bit easier.

Tiring...

Post by majeed »

How was my day off? Tiring: I spent a lot of it relaxing, sleeping and snoozing - probably to make up for the O/T I've been doing (I'm getting old, now!).

Using information gained from the local council's planning DHTML web pages, plus information from Google Earth and a rough sketch map made during a preliminary visit to an industrial site this week, created a neater plan of the site using CorelDraw!, with a key as to the site's lock-up and free-standing units, where they are placed on the map and who are the occupants, in each case. Also produced a short, ten-point report of the problems with delivering mail to the site.

Managed to muster energy to go to Friday prayer and blanked out through the Punjabi part of the sermon. Still feel tired and have just to dry my washed uniform. Not on A/B's any more, so... I'll be fasting tomorrow, inshaa-a Allah. :dance

Great day its my long weekend :nana
I've now got used to my delivery, Monday I got lost 3 times  but been ok the rest of the week. No way will I ever complete in 3.5 hours, its just over 30 mile delivery  glad I've got a van!
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Better than usual for a Saturday. Busy, but not too bad considering the week we've had. Not many packets really, and the weather was good.

I always understood that it did not matter if it was meched or not. Mail Sort 3 (identified with an M as opposed to 1 or 2) could stay in on a Saturday because it was a significantly shorter working day. Although you have to be SDD compliant to be allowed to do this. I had 3 mech bundles on Sat - none went - nor any of the MS3 that was mixed in with the manual and other meched mail despite the fact that it was all meant to be sanitized according to the SDD agreement.
