Hi all,
I ordered a high value item (£1600) on Thursday which was shipped with Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm. It was dropped off at a post office at 9.01am on the Friday and reached the main mail centre that following evening. It showed as having despatched and never showed up at my local mail office. I contacted Royal Mail and they said they can't contact the mail office whatsoever to find out what's going on. Yet apparently I now need to wait until the 5th to even make a claim on it? It never arrived at the mail centre it was being taken to and has dropped off the face of the earth. I feel overwhelmed and lost.
Has anyone experienced a complete breakdown in tracking like this with this specific service? Even if I get refunded at this point, being without that amount of money and the item for that long with RM being so nonchalant about it is bonkers. They've claimed it may be damage to the label? But that could only been have caused in transit and it was being transported. So...it just evaporates??

Tracking does occasionally stop. Items only get tracked if they are moving, so if it temporarily stops moving for any reason there will be no tracking for a while.
Just to be clear, it is down to the sender to chase this. If this is something that you bought online then you should be making a claim from the seller, not chasing RM.
The tracking restarted this morning. It was seen at the Parcelforce hub in Coventry. This could indicate that PFW are helping RM out as the latter are busy. I think it might also happen if the parcel is overweight for Special Delivery, i.e. more than 10kg.

The sender should be able to get a full refund from Royal Mail. As a buyer, you might be able to get some kind of reimbursement from the seller, depending on what is in the contract between you and the seller.
