Is it really worth six points and a large fine?

Commuting insurance only covers you to your primary place of business.

Who would pay for the hire and reward insurance needed, and Royal Mail would have to provide the third-party cover as well?

Just wondering if the health and safety,cwu and top bosses know about this or are they party to it at local level

It's hard to believe a manager would suggest doing this as they must know full well that most employees wouldn't have sufficient insurance cover on their own private car policy.

I'm guessing someone requested to finish earlier but not too far off planned finish time so they could get to the school run and the manager lazily and stupidly suggested this as an option.

Correct you still get some finishing on street to allow more to be delivered rather than return to office

You aren’t allowed to use your own cars while working. It was withdrawn as a practice in 2010/11 and is written into an agreement that no private cars may be used.

It was briefly reintroduced during Covid when we all had to be kept separate but then that permission was withdrawn in 2021 or 2022.

The current status is that no private vehicles are to be used and under no circumstances must mail be in your vehicle.

so if u do that what about public liability insurance, if u crash and they say ur business insurance is not enough, like self employed drivers u need hire and reward insurance, public liability if u crash into someones property u could be hit for a hefty 100 grand bill for knocking down a wall, are u really sure u want to go down the route of using ur own car, wouldn't be me

I remember seeing an old "Police Camera Action" series, there was a clip of a postman being pulled up by the police taking his mail bag out of the boot and it transpired that he doesn't have business class insurance or courier insurance, the car was seized and he was forced to take all of his bags out of the car, there must be at least 4 bags, I would imagine he had to ring his boss to pick him and his bags up.

you happy enough for the other person having to drive back to office, park van, empty van, deal with 739 items, have the manager ask them to do more work even if they only have minutes left, etc etc?

It was a satirical comment i'd be the one taking it all back,i was getting at why should i be punished because i dont have kids,this bowing down to parents gets on my nerves,fine if they want preferential treatment but why should i have to work harder ,they chose to have kids now look after them yourselves dont expect the rest of us too,this is the problem with a selfish society these days too many entitled people.

The whole point about family friendly/kids from school arrangements is that they are only supposed to be temporary until you sort something else out, otherwise it is unfair on the rest of the staff.
We have plenty staff who don’t come back for made up reasons and I imagine they are SISO either at home or on the street and giving PDA back to the driver who takes it all back. It’s a very, very shortsighted ‘benefit’ as between that and them also not wanting to stay in on a Saturday and sort D2D items they are making part of their job redundant. They are also usually the first staff to complain about others not doing the job properly, sneering at those who do overtime and have a meltdown if someone else starts 2 minutes before their allotted time.
