Question about special delivery.

Post by clix »

Hi

(I hope this is the correct section to post this in)

I am expecting a royal mail special delivery tomorow but i will not be in for this, so will not be able to sign for it etc.
My question is what will happen to this package, will it be returned to a depo or left at my neighbours if they are in?
Also if it is left at a depo is there anyway that i can find out which depo it is most likely to be dropped off at?

Thanks, Clix.

If you are out it will be returned to your local Delivery Office, neighbours are not allowed to sign for Special Delivery items under any circumstances or take anything in unless you have an agreement with the local Delivery Office Manager. The P739 (while you were out card) will state on the back your local office and telephone number.
So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Welcome Clix. Yes its in the right place.

1. Your neighbour should not be able to sign for it as it must be delivered to the address stated.

2. If no-one is in to sign for it the Postie should leave a Red Card with all details completed. On the reverse of this card it will state how long to leave before you can collect (usually 24 hours for Special Deliveries). If the card says 48 hours and you need it urgently, then go to the collection point and ask nicely if its available about 50% of times it is.

3. I would suggest going to the collection point around 8.00 - 9.00 as this allows time for the callers office to sort all the undelivered Specials ready for customers, any earlier lessens the chance of it either being there or ready for collection.

hi clix,
in answer to your question if you are not in to sign for the special delivery item the post person will leave a p739 form(wait docket) on this it will tell you what time they attempted to deliver the item and where it has been taken too. you then have two options, you can either have the item redelivered to you at no extra cost(sorry three options)on another day that suits you, or you can go and collect the item yourself from the callers office as marked on the wait docket,or you can have the item sent to a post office convenient to yourself(if they havent closed them all)for a small charge, this metod is called local collect hope this has been of help to you if not plug away on here and you will be surprised by the wealth of knowledge on this site.
cheers

Is it not also an option (and I don't know as I'm a collection driver) that they can request it be delivered to a Post Office of their choice for a 50p charge or is this just for packets?

Nope anything can as long as the post office is in the "catchment" area of the DO concerned.

thought you couldn't have specials redelivered to another address including a PO?

Any item can be sent to a PO in the local DO area, the charge is 50p per item, the PO should ask for ID just like CO. 'Normal' packets and recorded items can go to an alternative address but they also have to be within the DO area. SPECIALS CAN ONLY BE SENT TO THE ADDRESS ON THE ITEM OR A POST OFFICE.

Remember to take the p739 card and proof of identity when you go to collect the item.
