I concur! But there will be the comeback that a scallywag will nick the parcel from the porch so how will the customer know there's a parcel that's now been nicked if there's not a random card lying on the porch floor!
The same way they would know now? Email with a picture of delivery
In the majority of cases I agree. But you can get tracked parcels ordered for you without you having anything to do with it. Moonpig gift ordered for you as a surprise for example.
If they leave their porch open, that’s them, in my view, deliberately stating that they want you to leave parcels in there. As has been said, photo evidence is there. Never had any complaint yet, but I do deliver in an affluent area.

When Tracked were few in number it was a reasonable proposition to knock every door for a handover. Now that almost every packet is Tracked and packets in general are up 300% in my time, I treat them like we did letters when the external door was open but there was no letterbox internally: put them behind the door. I'm also in a nice area. In other parts of town I would be far more insistent on carding the packet.
The machine stops.

I am now loving the new 739 cards, must have used 50 today, seems crazy that you have to scan a card to be able take the photo of the parcel in the porch next to the 739 card, customers must think we are bonkers.
I wonder how many posties are just selecting 'Delivered to Customer' in that scenario?

Also we've had a significant number of customers come down with the card in their hand asking 'Where's my parcel' and it's been in their normal safeplace. They just ignore the existence of the QR code.
Why would you leave a card when it’s in the porch, just scan ‘delivered to customer ‘. Photo taken job done.
I concur! But there will be the comeback that a scallywag will nick the parcel from the porch so how will the customer know there's a parcel that's now been nicked if there's not a random card lying on the porch floor!

I deliver over 100 Tracked items a day on average a fair few I must just leave in porches without a 739 and I've never had a single complaint, the only time customers ever complain is if you deliver it to the wrong address/day or it's damaged.

Only somebody who's never done the job would think a parcel left in a porch needs a 739 card, or somebody won't pay for the programming costs to get the PDA app amended. Now most posties will just select the customer option, imagine one where it's just a bar code, take photo>scan QR code >scan 739>type in name and address> leave card, which the customer will then just throw in the bin without even reading.

From what I've seen on Robin (sadly I do go on their occasionally), the powers that be are possibly going to amend the 'in porch' safeplace scan so that it doesn't need a card scan and thus no card left.

I've scanned all mine as delivered to customer today, let's see if any complain.

I wonder what customers think when they see a 739 on or next to a delivered parcel, then check the QR code only to be told it's for the parcel in the porch!!!

I missed the training bit about sticking our own bar codes on none tracked items.

Why would you leave a card when it’s in the porch, just scan ‘delivered to customer ‘. Photo taken job done.

Because you have not delivered to the customer, you have just left it in the porch, scan the parcel 📦 tap safe place, scan QR code, packet in porch, card on top, take photo, done what the PDA asks, no comebacks if the parcel 📦 goes missing, thank me later 👋

I know, but common sense should prevail. As I’ve said, the fact that the porch is open means that they want you to leave it in there. I won’t leave a card in this situation, others will. Each to their own.

If the parcel goes missing the customer will complain it was never delivered, Royal Mail will then send photographic proof it was delivered regardless as to whether you've left a card or not. The worse that can happen is being told off for selecting customer rather than enclosed porch.

The chances are a thief will take the card as well as the parcel anyway so it's unlikely the customer will come home to find a card but no parcel.

Was going to come in Monday. Now been told the software isn't ready  (maybe it doesn't scale up) or perhaps because we've had no training. :left:
