New P739 coming out

Surprised nobody has brought up the situation regarding ASOS parcels yet. The ones which come in the black and white plastic packaging. Massive contract with them.Royal Mail security man came to the office last week,showed a video to managers. They then gave us all a brief. ASOS are using AI to check if their parcels are being left in bins. If they are,even though the customer hasn’t complained,then it’s classed as not delivered correctly. Royal Mail have to compensate them £50 a parcel,yes,£50. Costing us thousands. So now managers basically saying treat ASOS packets as Specials. Other companies are surely going to be doing this. The advancement of AI is going to change our job massively for sure.

Pretty sure there was guidance a few years back saying not to leave tracked items in bins anyway. It's not the smartest thing to do.

Technically, it's not their parcel until it enters their property, and if you don't think a safe place is 'safe', then you don't have to leave it there anyway.

Unless it's in writing, I personally wouldn't do it. A few years back, a postie had a verbal agreement with a customer that they could leave their parcels in a bin. Had it for ten years. One day, a recorded parcel goes missing, customer rings up to complain, is told that their postie said they had an agreement with them.

The reply? "What agreement?"

Bins in active use have been verboten for some time. If a recipient were to request I fling it in the river I'll disregard that instruction as an obviously inappropriate safeplace. Judgement and common sense may still, for the time being until micromanagement becomes nanomanagement, be exercised by OPGs.

The only thing it saves is pen ink, by the time you have pressed this and that and having to manually enter the postcode ( this is supposed to automatically show but mostly doesn’t) it doesn’t really save any time. I guess it will be better than writing them out in the rain.

Yeah I've had a couple last week where I've had to input the postcode presumably when it wasn't embedded in the 2d code so not too bad.

I am now loving the new 739 cards, must have used 50 today, seems crazy that you have to scan a card to be able take the photo of the parcel in the porch next to the 739 card, customers must think we are bonkers.

I wonder how many posties are just selecting 'Delivered to Customer' in that scenario?

Also we've had a significant number of customers come down with the card in their hand asking 'Where's my parcel' and it's been in their normal safeplace. They just ignore the existence of the QR code.

I concur! But there will be the comeback that a scallywag will nick the parcel from the porch so how will the customer know there's a parcel that's now been nicked if there's not a random card lying on the porch floor!

In the majority of cases I agree. But you can get tracked parcels ordered for you without you having anything to do with it. Moonpig gift ordered for you as a surprise for example.
