If you don't lower the prices to win or retain contracts then you will keep losing market share which if it becomes substantial will have a massive impact on revenue despite your theoretical assertion.

The vast majority of DPD drivers are classfied as self employed and have to rent the big DPD vans that you see. This is exactly the model of working that we don't want.

Unfortunately it is a race to the bottom and customers aren't willing to pay more for better service quality. The customers are looking for the cheapest price.

DPD for example have gone down the same pan, my parcel hungry next door neighbour gets deliveries from all the usual suspects and DPD now just dump on the front doorstep the same as the others except our postie who still has the decency to hide stuff round the back.

If what MW says is correct then RM will be bankrupt in 5 years time unless the Government decides to outlaw owner drivers, given that seems pretty unlikely then why on earth would DK spend £3B of his own money buying a company heading for bankruptcy in just a few years?

If RM is in much poor financial shape then why is it paying it's CEO a £7m annual salary and it's owner a £114 payment for loan fees?

Nobody said the business will go bankrupt. Like you imply DK isn't foolish enough to buy a business that will go bankrupt.
The fact is that the total assets that RM own, (Property and Land) will easily recoup the purchase value of the sale. DK isn't going to lose anything.

It is the direction of travel they go in to keep/make the business profitable in its operation.
It is the workers that will suffer if the owners decide to implement the self employment gig economy method.
The owners will profit regardless of the outcome. They can't lose.
