If the shifts are already extended to 8-9 hours are people really doing 12 hour days, 9 on delivery. That's a lot.
And clearly not sustainable

We went live 3 weeks ago.

Thanks for the update :thumbup

We are due to go live very soon and what you said doesn't surprise me. We have singletons who are determined to clear their own frames so they don't get hit with double mail the following day and yet still manage to finish before their time. But asking managers to actually manage this on an ad-hoc basis is a bit like asking a fish to ride a bicycle. Paired walks have been the pressure point ever since the imposed revisions in our office.

Truthfully, the better long term solution is to rebalance the duties so that singletons are fully utilised and for shared van duties to be smaller to reflect the inefficiencies of van sharing and working in pods.

Common sense obviously but they aren't easy or popular decisions for management to make and so they will likely try and tinker around the edges instead. Perhaps a loop or a few packets off a paired walk here or there, and that's before the arguments start because the singletons really don't want to leave anything off their frame to do someone else's. And as for paired walks that are allowed to clear on overtime - how long will that last? Management might be more than happy to give those staff extra hours at Xmas, but what happens for the other 11 months of the year?

edit: If staff are having to do extra overtime hours to make DM26 to make it work. That really wasn't the idea of USO reform.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Exactly this postslippete. The manager is basically letting the old timers on 50/50's do what they want as long as the lapsed duty clears and they aren't back early. Then the pods are constantly taking out stuff they know they won't have time to do to clear the office. (Although granted they are not failing much) A bundle or two. We have spare staff one day a week so they take out any mail brought back by the pods to clear.

So, is it more or less work than the old way of working? In terms of steps and physicality? The CWU promised me less work!

We never got near to completing the old way of working on most rounds, mainly due to lack of staff. Now it is "nearly" clearing every day. The 50/50 rounds are completing comfortably even with extra work and taking out the mail on the light side of the round. Which is supposed to stay in the frame.

The singletons must be enjoying DM26 at your DO as they are probably delivering less than 75% of the mail they used to deliver but seemingly none of the mail/packets on the town duties they are now supposed to be delivering! Meanwhile at better managed DO's they'll be given their fair share of town pkts/mail.

No joke: in the deployment team's pitch to us they said the upside of getting two days off a week is that you can work one and still have a day off!

That's because you can't see the other half of the workload sequestered in the MC. We'd be clear right now without DM26 if half the letters were anywhere but in the office overnight (a problem once solved by delivering them).
The machine stops.

What are they playing at? It’s absolutely ridiculous in our office, pods failed every day , people booking 3 hours till 7pm! Are they seriously trying to make people quit or do they want to say to the government in 6 months “look we tried and we can’t achieve the uso so bin the letters off and we become evri?
When you say people booking do you mean actually working or ghosting?
Not sure ghosting is even a thing these days thanks to SISO.

Only mech letters get held in the MC, everything else gets sent to the DOs in separate 1C and 2C trays.

Apart from a few flats ton most days of the week most of the 2c is mech letters? On Friday's and Saturday's we now get full trays of mech, in theory at least that should be just half a tray in the future, what's that 100 2c letters?

What do you mean by "what's that 100 2c letters?"?

Once you've gone over to DM26 for each batch for your DO on a Friday night will fit into a single tray, unless there's a 1C bulk posting.

I've no idea how many letters are in a full tray of Mech as I've never sat and counted them, a pure guess was 200, so 50% is 100 letters.

If we're getting one full tray now for a full duty them logic would suggest it's half tray post DM26, although I appreciate this is RM we're talking about anything is possible.

But it'll be 2 or 3 days mail each time that walk is done. So you'll probably have 2 full trays for the town walks alternating each day.

A lot will also depend on when DSA is due to hit the time limit for the DSA product used.
