Re: DM26 - Is it working?
We’re trialing it and it’s an absolute f***ing s**t show. There’s an ulterior motive to all of this. I’m certain.

Re: DM26 - Is it working?
Do you at least know if it's better to work...
1. In a van-share
2. As a singleton doing 4 duties as part of the pod.
3. As a singleton sticking to 1 duty (typically a 'rural').
I'd assume the 3rd option must be the best option.... but are those singleton 'rural' posties struggling with the workload too?

Everyone has a full days work. The non-pod singletons assist indoors and outdoors.norris9 wrote: ↑Yesterday, 19:05Do you at least know if it's better to work...

Re: DM26 - Is it working?
We’ve not officially started it but we’ve started trialling pods randomly around the office around 3 weeks ago. As predicted it’s not working, delivery’s that used to clear now going over by 2 hours. The whole idea is f***ing stupid and has been dreamt up by office drones like Mr Walsh who have no idea what the job is outdoors. Most the time saved by leaving 2nd class on half a delivery gets eaten up by doing double mail on the other side.
Granted it probably does save around 20-30 mins by doing this but it in no way frees up enough time to cover 2 thirds of another deliveries tracked, first class and some of the mail. Add in the added complexity’s of ramming more large parcels from the 3rd delivery into a van share and it’s just a total mess.
This method won’t make the savings the company and the union thinks it can make and I think RM probably know that. It’s probably the last Hail Mary attempt to convince the government and regulator that they have tried and that the USO must be further watered down at some future point.

Re: DM26 - Is it working?
Have they braved putting this into any large offices yet say 100 + duty’s type of size?

It's a stealth attack on the USO
They'll go back to OFCOM and say, look, we tried, and it hasn't worked; time to remove the USO and reduce the letters business, or dump it

This was the first test to see if they could get away with it and they have. 5-10 years and letters will only be delivered a few days a week.

Re: DM26 - Is it working?
Give it enough time and I reckon letter delivery will eventually be once a week, unless a very expensive premium is paid. I saw a TV program once where instead of letters being delivered, people had to collect them from what iirc was a post office, maybe something like that will happen long term.Hitcher wrote: ↑Yesterday, 21:55100%.TooManyLoops wrote: ↑Yesterday, 20:57It's a stealth attack on the USO

We're scheduled for August 17th. While we aren't that large an office, I believe we are the largest in PA (or second, I think Renfrew merged into Paisley last year). In our evangelist session, much was said to us about how DM26 rescued Erskine from eternal presence on the failing offices list. Absolutely no-one was buying that. Let it be noted, Erskine has a whopping 18(?) duties.
The machine stops.

Considering post offices are closing down left, right and centre I highly doubt people are going to go to post offices to pick up mail. In big population centres it would also be ridiculous, unfeasible and unrealistic for people queuing up for access to their post. Even alternative places to pick up your mail simply wouldn't have the capacity, infrastructure or security to accommodate this.
You are correct that in the long term Royal Mail will aim for a higher premium to be paid for postal delivery. Letters are covered by special delivery 1pm items at present with a premium fee but there is also a trend with small packets that used to be defined as letters to be tracked as well. Long term Royal Mail will want more letters with a tracked service so they can charge a more premium fee. This may mean that first class for example becomes a tracked item but Off com would have to authorise this.
Essentially what will happen is mail will continue to decline and there will be further reduction on mail delivery days. There will not be a place where you pick your mail up because of what I outlined earlier. Junk Mail/Dss mail is still a huge revenue earner for businesses. Sending a letter accrues more business than most forms of advertising so it will not die as quickly as people are expecting.
In terms of letters being modernised it may be that letters are digitised and every person has a digital account where they can be accessed from home. But the idea of a physical place where you pick up mail is not going to happen. If this was the case you might as well just have people turn up the depot every day for their post. In fact that is what is happening throughout the country anyway

Re: DM26 - Is it working?
You can use the agreement to get everything you need to put right the historic wrongs but it needs you to stick together and you need a strong local rep who knows every agreement inside and out. You are faced with a battle on two fronts and if the rep does get it right you'll need to support them against the CWU who will challenge every decision they make. It is your chance to make your working life better.Mr Rush wrote: ↑Yesterday, 22:41We're scheduled for August 17th. Re: DM26 - Is it working?
DM26 is less of us doing more indoor and outdoor. The method requires proactively managing and gaffers need eyes in the back of their heads. It also needs us to be honest and transparent. For it to function it needs a group of workers who can work as a team with minimal supervision. The methodology is not robust enough for the type of work we do. It works on the ideology of there being no deviations. That does not work when there is a fixed operational requirement every day. There has to be surplus resource to meet the fixed operational requirements. A shortage results in failure which then creates recovery pressures. In simple terms the ideology is based on flexible operational requirements where the work is not constrained by legal and contractual time limits which incur penalties.
It is not robust enough for peak 26 and will not be the delivery method by peak 27.
