Many offices moved to 4:30pm or worse finishes 2 years ago and the same concerns fell on deaf ears, apart from the CWU saying they would look into improving them

I'd go as far to say it's been the single biggest reason people have left the job in these areas - coincidence?

Where are these late start and finish offices? I remember hearing the CWU said they were trying to get some offices in Scotland to start earlier as their start times had been pushed forward a lot....

Then I think the other day someone from Northern Ireland said they had late starts...

Where are these late start and finish offices? I remember hearing the CWU said they were trying to get some offices in Scotland to start earlier as their start times had been pushed forward a lot....

There was definitely a CWU thing about pushing for earlier starts/finishes. I seem to remember it was a 20 minute average across the UK or something. Most likely been swept under the carpet.

I don't know too much, though what I have heard frankly sounds like desperate pleading from the CWU to avoid those 9-5 hours that Martin was recently vaunting as one of the union's great achievements. Newsflash: the company doesn't care.

Distance from the parcel hubs, I believe. There's only two(?) - South East and East Midlands, I think.

As someone whos now working on distribution I've been surprised at the times we drop mail off at offices, 75% of the mail we drop are at offices at least an hour before the postie's start. I think the reason is because they'd all be stood about waiting on the last arrivals and they don't want that but they'd definitely be hitting the streets earlier if they would let them

I work in North West England and our times are currently 0830am starts with our longer days being 0430pm finishes. Very few people are prepared to go past their finishing times for various reasons such as family commitments, lousy overtime rate, working during the rush hour etc, and my office fails massively. Very few frames are cleared and the office as a whole hasn't cleared even before COVID, which many use a benchmark for the start of delivery failure. We had 3pm finishes at that time, which were introduced in 2010.

Any duties times will be governed by the network window and what duty patterns you pick. The CWU are claiming they can bargain earlier starts and that those with commitments covered by the legislation will be successful in making an application for hours to meet their commitments.

If you are coming in to at least a days worth of work, surely you would only be waiting for tracked and first class to arrive?
Is it all about overtime being higher before 6am?
