Re: 2 in 5
I'm not understanding Saturdays either.
The original ODM had 1 person doing 2 duties.
The ODM was a massive failure.
Now it's scheduled like that on a Saturday with extra time constraints. Because u have to be back to the office earlier due to the collection lorry leaving.
I feel like a massive piece of information is missing.
Are the 50/50 pink duties still going to be supporting the town duties and taking a cage of parcels off? So that it's achievable?
Otherwise it can't be done.

Well if you have a non driver it's a bit draft to put him in a van on his own.

Re: 2 in 5
Offices are being staffed on Saturdays for 1 person to go out in a van and do 2 duties worth of tracked and 1C. Martin Walsh has stated that in the event that non driving staff are rota'd on a Saturday they will go out in a van with a driver - "It works better for non drivers as they can stay on the CDV pairing and rotate the heavy and light model and can can share on a Saturday to enable an earlier finish"
If it's 2 in some vans on a Saturday, then it stands to reason that it will be 4 duties worth of tracked and 1C as thats what the staffing allows for. Even with 2 people, 400 plus items on a Saturday isn't happening.
Or do people think that 2 in a van will have to only do 2 duties worth?
This isn't a case of complaining about Tom having the same amount of work as 2 people - it's simply about not having the numbers of staff in to allow 2 in a van and get all the work done. The work fails on a Saturday then the whole 'extra Saturdays' is off the table.

I was lead to believe that on a Saturday you’ll be delivering 1 & 1/2 duties tracked & FC as 2 full duties is unmanageable.
It was a regional union guy who said this is a recent meeting, can anyone confirm this?

There has to be a first class service, if everything goes 2nd class then some offices wouldn’t deliver them for 3 weeks. This 2nd class being cleared every second day is just a dreamtoonshola wrote: ↑31 May 2026, 17:06Honestly there is just no reason for a first class letter service these days. Waiting 1 more extra day for that birthday card or document to arrive won’t kill anyone and the world will still turn, and hey if you do absolutely desperately need a letter there the next day then send it via special delivery. I could ALMOST see this nonsense DM26 idea working if first class letters didn’t exist.
Proper archaic idea from the late 90s that needs binned in 2026.

You mean more staff are going to be needed than originally thought on a Saturday as 2 duties worth is too much? Never saw that coming....

Was that a typo? It was the late 60s under the last Postmaster General.
It probably is superfluous now. What we really need is Tracked 72 to exercise some traffic shaping.
The machine stops.

Everyone knows that 1 over 2 works on a select number of 'easier' achievable, more compact deliveries will work ok. Bigger, high number of flats, already too big deliveries it will not work. Problem is how do you tell some they have to do 1 over 2 and others can have a non driver to help them. It will be another fudged, best efforts on a Saturday and the managers will all be at home watching the football when you come back to the office with 50 left over tracked and 15 really important SIM cards.
Not out problem at the end of the day.

Until the Morning morning when you are called in by the manager for a chat once he realises tracked failed on the Saturday, probably followed up with coaching note on the PDA to cover their backs.jessicarabbit wrote: ↑01 Jun 2026, 18:48Everyone knows that 1 over 2 works on a select number of 'easier' achievable, more compact deliveries will work ok. That was said to us by a higher up union guy as we don’t have a rep before asking us to vote yes on the uso deal. It seems the logical way to go as 2 full walks can be un achievable on a busy day but will anyone confirm this?
Wasn’t the combined duties failing on the majority of the pilots?

Someone from outwith your office telling you things will be better than 2 duties per person then asking for a yes vote sounds like they were just trying to get support for ‘yes’.GV1998 wrote: ↑02 Jun 2026, 08:17That was said to us by a higher up union guy as we don’t have a rep before asking us to vote yes on the uso deal. The whole idea around Saturdays has been planned in small offices where it is one person to a van every day and they all chip in and get the work done. Upscaling it to other sized offices with trolleys, rurals, shared vans is going to fail without a proper revision.

Re: 2 in 5
So if you do everything to cover your back by:
- following the duty plan
- raise workload concerns before leaving the office
- used the overrunning procedures by asking what the priorities are
- delivering on those priorities
- worked safely
Then what exactly are you supposed to have done differently? Sure, a manager can have a conversation and ask why items failed but if the answer is there were 6 hours worth of work and only 4 and half hours to do them in then that's a fundamental workload issue rather than a conduct one.
As long as you are not refusing to do the work, the maths doesn't change just because somebody says take it all out
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

You’ve stopped nothing. We are going to be 8.40 to 17.10Martin Walsh wrote: ↑23 May 2026, 10:35The reason for the later starts was that Royal Mail ceased to use planes to carry mail which means that it arrivals later to the inward mail centre.
Royal Mail would love a 9-5 model for parcels but the union has stopped this now on four occasions dating back to 2017.
