Royal Mail Managers are saying publicly that lapsing and absorption do not exist. I have had to take a section of another round, yet they deny that lapsing and absorption does not exist.
Am I the only one who has been told to take on an extra section on top of my existing round? I am in the WA area.

You must be the only person in Royal Mail with nothing to do.

Re: lapsing and absorption
We've been lapsing/absorbing/whatever you want to call it for years, iirc the original idea was to lapse only during the quiet summer period so extra holiday slots could be allowed, a good idea imho, obviously that never happened and lapsing was used to cover up staff shortages instead.
Are you saying the concept has only just reared it's ugly head at your office ?

Lapsing was supposed to be put to bed by the Shorter Working Week and then Seasonal Variation. However, with neither of those two panning out lapsing remains a tool in management's armoury.
Although who in the hell is actually able to clear their duty under their time (nevermind at all) these days that they have scope to pick up part of another duty? Whether lapsing exists or not, you have your contract hours and that is it. Cut off like the rest of the country.

The problem remains though, that management just tell us to leave even more of our own duties to clear the "absorbing."Mr Rush wrote: ↑14 Oct 2025, 17:53Lapsing was supposed to be put to bed by the Shorter Working Week and then Seasonal Variation. Re: lapsing and absorption
To be honest we don't do lapsing/absorption.
They just collapsed a load of duties and permanently added them to our frames tripling the double slots on already unachievable deliveries in most cases.

Re: lapsing and absorption
Here's the thing, "own duties" is a thing of the past, i know i left 6 months ago but even then i had gotten used to not worrying about what i considered to be "my duty". Whatever was asked i delivered what i could in the allotted time, no arguments, when asked to try to clear "my duty" i again did what i could in the allotted time. Just rinse and repeat until you retire because at the moment it probably isn't going to change, or look for something else, although retirement is excellent so far.Londonsburning wrote: ↑14 Oct 2025, 18:13The problem remains though, that management just tell us to leave even more of our own duties to clear the "absorbing."Mr Rush wrote: ↑14 Oct 2025, 17:53Lapsing was supposed to be put to bed by the Shorter Working Week and then Seasonal Variation.
