My job immediately before this one was as a Customer Complaints Call Handler at a Mail Order firm. It got really silly at one point because I was counselled because my approach/conversion rate for extra sales was below their targets.

In other words, if something went wrong with someone's order they would speak to me to get it sorted and then I had to sell them something else. Boy did that get them more upset, of course it did.

Meal relief's were not paid, there was no canteen, just a coffee room. I had to commute through a major city for 1.5 hours at each end, pay was 20p above NMW, at about 1/3 calls I got sworn at, I had to take a minimum of 80 calls in an 8 hour shift, whilst getting the problems sorted. It wore me down in the end.

I would not fancy that TBT, so royal mail is not that bad when you think of other jobs. I believe no job will ever be perfect. Lets stick this one out as much as we can. :Applause

I enjoy my work, well actually I enjoy working no matter what I did, I admit their are times I wish I was back at romec but then again, I am a valued part of a good team, I wish i was full time but leighton don't like disabled people for some strange reason.

When I was a chef I use to an AFD (All effing day) sometimes 17hours a day (brekkies 6am and depends on how you were and whether their are functons, 11pm at night), but quite often 12hours aday tween 5 - 7 days a week for a basic 40hour salary. Christmas time I can remember starting 6am first monday of october and not really leaving (bar xmas day and boxing day) till 10pm last sunday of jan. Saying that it was easier to sleep at the hotel. (of course the functions was good.) Saying all that i enjoyed being a chef, but being at royal mail at least If I work over 6hours a day I get a choice to cut off or get paid over.

Talking about harreshment(sue me I can't spell) and bullying, yes the managers do bully and strike fear, but some of the head chefs I worked under have been known to chucks knives, (still got scars and burns), pans and really abrusive yet I gave as good as I got and was respected for it, now I can't tell a manager to F off yet he or she can insult me, go figure.

The point I am making is if you do the job completely as it should be, your covered, you get paid and all the worrying and stress goes to those that deserve it, as garfield the cat once said, I reserved all my abused for the lower life forms ie idiotic managers

I agree with Fellchair. most people I think do like working for Royal Mail. It is undermined though by a minority who cant be bothered getting up to sort in the morning. In my opinion what other job keeps you as fit as a postperson? I also have other interests outside work and this job gives my ample opportunity to do these things. When I used to work 9 to 5 I couldnt do half as much as I do now. Although I think it must be very annoying if they keep putting postpeople on different rounds every week.

I enjoy working for Royal Mail although there will be always be some unpleasant aspects of any job. And my work colleagues now are infinitely better than the 'shower of bastards' I was with for many years previously.

thats true... your working with people like yourself... and when we work together in a section in a mail centre... or in a delivery office its like your a family... i mean if one person has a problem we all stick up for them like we would with family. what benefits one persons working condition betters it for us all.... atleast thats how i see it

It's heartening to see so many people actually do still enjoy working here.
To see so many posts by the "usual suspects" whinging about their particular lot in life gives the impression we're all deeply unhappy, and that obviously ain't so.
Maybe too many of those usual suspects have no experience of the Big Wide World outside of RM to compare.... :hmmmm

I've worked outside RM for years but in all those jobs I've never felt so unappreciated by the management but that said I still enjoy working with most of my colleagues and I enjoy the job whenever I'm out of the office.

"Totaly wrong"?
So your opinion is applicable to everyone, is it?

Of course, you've asked them all, haven't you? How did you find time to poll all the 140,000 delivery staff, etc etc?
I don't know what's worse, RM thinking they know what I think, or people like yourself..............

No mr tea man you would not be as foolish to think iv'e spoken to everyone would you ? . But the feedback i recive from even the least outspoken of the posties in my office realy do think the place sucks. But i will concede that they do enjoy it once they have left the oppression of the do or mail centre brought about by oppresive management styles.
