Had my first one today, a massive television.
Should have refused it, but you risk getting into confrontation. That said, next time I will as I could hardly carry it and will probably know about it tomorrow with all the aches.
Better a confrontation than a serious back injury....manager wants it delivered he/she can carry it
It was a collection, not a delivery- I should have stated that!
So you end up with a confrontation with a member of public on your round, if you refuse it. But like I say, I will refuse or ask for their help next time.
Was the weight on the pda??
Yes but it was less than 30kg and we’re told any weight up to that is ok to take.
Guessing a manual handling assessment has been carried out and communicated to everyone? It is not solely down to the weight but a generic 30kg regardless of an assessment of the task, the individual, the load or the environment (TILE) does not seem like the right approach. Are there stairs, gates or any other trip hazards, how far is it carried, is there any equipment available that can be used, is it team or individual ?
In deliveries this means the same process for RM collect will apply and COMs will review all planned Parcel Collects for their offices in the morning at the start of shift via the Redlands Dashboard and follow the agreed process.
Due to the size, weight and dimensions of some Parcel Collect we have secured the ability to utilise tailored options which can include alternative delivery vehicles, DPR, afternoon collection routes and PFW as a last resort. Where further support is required, the COM is to escalate to the relevant CCOM at the earliest opportunity.
At work this morning and got asked by our admin if i had been briefed on the Parcel force collections. No. (Of course I'm familiar with it due to this forum) but no brief.
i was given a quick run down. I asked if there is any info on size dimensions? "No was the reply, 'just don’t accept anything that wont fit inside of a York or is too heavy". Then i get told that the first PF collection from our delivery office happened yesterday and it was a drum set weighing over 30kg and our colleague had to refuse collection. Absolute farce. Coincidentally, i’m sure i read on here fairly recently that someone else had a drum set that they had for a collection…..
I'm starting to get the impression the whole RM business is just comprised of "Yes men" from just below the board/owner all the way down to just above Delivery, because they earn easy money to pass the buck.
In fact, I've had that impression for about the last 15 years lol.
Utter shambles

A drum set, I love it these jokes write themselves, I'm absolutely convinced that this company doesn't think anything through properly...ever
Are PF sending a lorry to collect the items from the local MC?
They go in seperate yorks to the MC, so there hasn't been sufficient numbers to warrant a separate lorry. I did see one parcel in the deck around 3m long, I've no idea how that made to the DO, unless somebody drove it sticking out of the back doors of an Expert, which wouldn't really surprise me if they did!

Hope that PF sent a lorry to the MC to collect that otherwise it won't have made it past the local MC. It would be too big for a double-stacker.
