Tracked 48 deliveries keep going to the same wrong address

Post by wapsbasm »

Hi,

I'm having a puzzling (and as of this morning it now counts as regular) problem with Tracked 48 deliveries.

This morning, the third Tracked 48 delivery in a row in the space of a month has been delivered to the same wrong address - thankfully it's only to my neighbour across the road, but we're both getting a bit fed up of the continuing inconvenience now. I live at number 9 on our street, they live at number 8. These delivery issues aren't the fault of our (various) posties on the round - it's the address on the actual label that is consistently wrong.

Here's the thing: this is only happening with Tracked 48 deliveries - the 'normal' post usually arrives correctly addressed and without any problems. I've checked each of these wrongly-addressed T48 parcels with the sender source, and my address is correct with them, so that leads me to conclude that the problem lies solely with Tracked 48 - alongside the fact it's only their label that's wrongly addressed as '8' instead of '9'.

Is there any way I can get this corrected for future deliveries? There's no point asking the postie as we don't have regulars you can get to know on this route anymore, sadly.

Thanks in advance.

Any postperson would read the address label and deliver accordingly.

How does the number 8 get onto the label ?

Yes as I've already acknowledged, the posties on the route are clearly not the problem here.

That's the question, isn't it?

It's not my mistake (I've checked), and further checks confirm it's not down to mistakes by the various (different) senders, either. I supply the sender with my address including the correct house number 9, the sender supplies Tracked 48 with the correct house number 9. The incorrect house number 8 only seems to be applied once Tracked 48 labels it.

That kind of thing happening once or twice every six months or so would be annoying, but easy enough to live with. But as I said, it's very puzzling that this now seems to be becoming a consistently regular issue (three in a row over one month), so I was wondering if anyone with better knowledge of Tracked 48's practices and procedures could help to explain how it could happen, when I and the sender(s) appear to be doing everything right at our respective ends. Did someone at T48 mishear '9' as '8' or mistakenly enter it in a database somewhere and that mistake has stuck somehow, for example? Do T48 double-check addresses with other sources that might mistakenly have my address as 8 instead of 9? Are these even possibilities?

I don't know, I'm just hoping someone might offer any suggestions to help explain it and hopefully how I can correct it.

Have you tried sending a T48 item to yourself to see what label is generated?

Are these different senders using the same platform e.g ebay, etsy?

I'm not sure that 'Tracked 48' is an entity which has it's own separate address database (unless someone knows different) from the main Royal Mail one and applies addresses within it's own database to parcels, an address which is different to the one you or the sender of the item have supplied. Unless it periodically copies the main RM address database to use - if that's the case perhaps there's been a data corruption.

Just to check, is your address correctly listed on the Royal Mail address finder (should be if you're getting 'normal' mail):

https://www.royalmail.com/find-a-postcode

It's a bit strange to say the least.

If the label is addressed to number 8 and it is addressed to number 8 then the postie isn't at fault as you say.

If you have checked the sender has your address as 9 and the label says 8, they typed 8 when buying the label.
If it is say ebay or etsy(for example) the label might be autogenerated....using the delivery address you have on your account.

If the labels are being printed by the sender, they aren't checking it very well. If its printed by a post office they might not be typing it very well.

The only other thing I can think of is.......if the road is a new build and not every number is on the RM database, they might be using the next nearest number available.

check the RM postcode finder online. if the address is on there, its on the RM database

Examining the address label on the latest package very carefully with a magnifying glass (which obviously a postie on the road couldn't realistically be expected to do) it turns out that it actually does say '9' instead of '8', but it's so badly printed and in such a miniscule font size that it looks like an '8'. As to where the parcels came from, two were sent through Ebay, but the other one was from an independent store (although they did all go through the same sorting office if that means anything).

But by way of an update, happily this morning I got two separate Tracked48 parcels that were both correctly addressed and delivered into my hands rather than my neighbour's, so hopefully the problem is sorted now. What I did notice is that this time both address labels were very clearly printed in a slightly larger font, unlike the fuzzy and scuzzy labels that graced the misdelivered parcels. So it looks like someone somewhere might have replaced the toner cartridge on the office printer :Very Happy

Thanks for your replies.
