I can see the model being similar to what we are doing now, bare bones staff and concentrating on 1C and Tracked whilst taking as much of the other mail as possible then swapping over the next day. I think the days of totally clearing a duty have gone.
Pretty much what we do too.
Most shared vans in ours have at least 2, sometimes 3 days a week when only 1 person is on it.
Busy every day, but just about coping.
When our lords and masters think they can't hide it any longer from us. Expect an update this week telling us talks on the new delivery model are very complex and more time is required to get the right agreement. Now back to your double days of mail and impossible workload and never question your superiors again
Long (heavy) short (light)days
Their ifeas are worse than RM
Problem is, on the light days the work is only just achievable as light days don't happen very often these days. If you make them any shorter then the walks will not be achievable.
Whether packets are light or heavy (more the latter), the Tracked gets done. When letters are light we can fit them in around the Tracked. When letters are heavy... it's not the Tracked that gets left. The working day is not short of work.
The company's PR constantly mentions how we've got 14 billion less letters to deliver than in 2006 - the public must think we finish hours early every day (thanks to our fantastic union that only exists in the fevered imaginations of however few Fleet Street hacks remain) and that's what's causing RM to lose £1m per second. If only we'd have an open day they could have their perception realigned. And they could also collect their stuff.
I think the intention is that it will minimally deviate from current operations and therefore it won't need to be trialled. The word from management, in as much as they know any more than we do, is that the ODM trials were pissing money away trying to reinvent the wheel and this alternative proposal is far simpler and cheaper.
One wonders if the first office that started it, with 20 singleton driving duties will be allowed to keep doing it. They basically redesigned how they worked so that everyone on every day did a bit of core and combined. Now they'll be expected to change again. Or are they likely to have different offices working in different ways and just hope that they save some money along the way.
Who knew having Bob, Evie and Ahmed covering 4 walks and none of them knowing which part of which delivery was due each day and none of them having enough hours in a day to do it all was too complicated and wouldn't work......
Oh wait only everyone who does the job, whereas the idiotic planners and senior managers lapped it up and proceeded to make shiny playbooks and multiple briefs and videos to explain it all to the simple postmen......only to be told 6 months later actually it doesn't work and actually costs money.
This business drives me mad.....but it also has paid my mortgage for the last 25 years so I guess I shouldn't really complain too much.

I think it's going to be different offices work to a different structure, snippets on here that 4 duties covered by 3 people would work for small offices but bigger offices would go to 8 people covering 9 duties guess we'll have to wait to see what they come up with.

Martin said trial offices would be given the option of continuing or moving to the new model.

This just sounds like lapsing, which we were meant to be getting rid of.
