As usual you are all doing RM's work for them, you are already at each others throat and enhancing the two tier system they have in place.
Grow up the lot of you, you all work for the same company and basically do the same job, one isn't easier than the other, they are all s**t!!
"They get paid more than me" or "they get it easier than me" feckin grow up.
Glad there's no war because you'd all be shooting each other in the back.
The pay deal doesn't affect me anymore so it's up to you to decide which way you vote, but petty squabbling won't get you what you want, it just causes division and at the moment you need unity and a clear goal.
Gather yourselves together and try to get what's best for all of you.

The pay is advertised yes but they dont mention the legacy staff pay and that there will be a difference in pay at all... Your whole comment is a load of nonsensejessicarabbit wrote: ↑04 Jul 2025, 11:35The pay is clearly advertised....if you take a job without knowing what you are being paid then that's on you.gypu1999 wrote: ↑04 Jul 2025, 10:55Most new starters who accepted the job offer had no idea that they would be on less money than the legacy staff, it is not advertised in the job description. Do you think that's fair?Sean06 wrote: ↑04 Jul 2025, 10:11Why?gypu1999 wrote: ↑04 Jul 2025, 08:31You are an absolute clown.jessicarabbit wrote: ↑03 Jul 2025, 23:06The elephant in the room is that no one forced any of the new contracts into the position they are in. They took the job knowing they were going to be paid less and not have all the same benefits as a legacy member. Yet the CWU who want to change that are the ones that are being attacked.
Go figure
When training new entrants I explain about how unfair the 2 tier workforce model is. If they stay they are tacitly accepting those terms and conditions. Many of them don't stay due to the nature of the work and the difference between perception and reality. Not one of those that I've seen and left has said the reason they are leaving is the difference in pay. Mostly they are trying another just above minimum wage job with worse attendance times and patterns and no doubt they will keep cycling thru similar jobs until they find something they like.
Remember this was imposed by the business in the most bitter of disputes in an attempt to break the union. If we carry on bickering about it and don't back the CWU and give them a chance to right the wrongs then we are doing Simon Thompsons job for him.

It’s always a pay cut, even on those rare occasions when we get an ‘inflation matching’ pay increase. Any increase is subject to tax and NI, so what you actually get in your take home pay is only about 7/10ths of the headline rate!DeadElvis wrote: ↑03 Jul 2025, 15:20This is actually a real terms pay cut. RPI is a significantly better measure of the living costs we face, and generally runs higher than CPI. RPI to April 2025 is 4.5%, so 4.2% is a real terms pay cut. In future years, since CPI is generally below RPI, so more real terms cuts.
Also, zero action on equalising pay for new entrants.

And for free, no less. At least have the gall to ask for £500,000 pa split between you.jessicarabbit wrote: ↑04 Jul 2025, 11:35If we carry on bickering about it and don't back the CWU and give them a chance to right the wrongs then we are doing Simon Thompsons job for him.

I originally thought the same re pension surplus and lump sum for USO change, but a quick look at the regs on take over and pensions indicates that pension surpluses if utilised. Then intentions must be notified to share holders before any take over vote..Im not aware that the ep group published any proposals on pension surplus changes so I guess status quo I.e. not touched would.remain. The only doubt on this would be a reference to DB schemes and also if I was a pension legal expert I wouldn't be in this crappie job...jessicarabbit wrote: ↑03 Jul 2025, 15:17It's a no strings pay rise.....albeit less than we would want. Decoupling USO reform and the other strings that RM would have thrown in for an extra lump sum (prob from the pension surplus) and an extra 1-2% is a massive deal for me. I'll take this and we can see what they come back to us in September and December with.
But I'm now thinking 4.2% with USO changes where else is the.money coming from. The Co is now heavily indebted...interest rates in money and bond markets will have a major impact..if they go up.
It's the hope....ie no hope that old man Ward would do anything other than keep repeating his same mistakes and p***i his pants during negotiations when CWU check off and release costs are mentioned...unfortunately under his dictatorship the CWU now only represents the CWU...not the members.

The payrise will no doubt be wiped out in the Autumn when Labour inevitably raise taxes.

It'll be a 75% + yes vote.

Spot on. I hadn't bothered replying to much of this because constant in-fighting over who's got it better or worse is exactly what the company wants - divide and conquer!! And the truth is whether you're a new start or legacy we are all getting squeezed one way or another. The job's harder than it has ever been and a bit of unity and a shared goal goes a lot further than endless squabbling.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Overtime pay per year (480 hours @ £19.36 per hour): £9,292.80
Gross annual pay: £41,512.00
Hope that helps!

Completely wrong I’m afraid. Not a reserve, but my office is so understaffed many of us regularly get moved about, and as I’m sure you are aware, you cannot refuse a reasonable request. Oh, and if I only had 2 days mail to clear every day, that would be a holidayTopperGas wrote: ↑04 Jul 2025, 17:32If you've been here 25 years I assume it's your own option to still be a reserve as I doubt all the regular duties are taken by staff with longer service records, or are you one of the docket kings happy to clear two+ days mail every day?pinstripe wrote: ↑04 Jul 2025, 17:17Out of the 5 days I’ve worked so far this week, I’ve done 4 different walks, but then I’ve only been here 25 years. Wish I worked in one of these “new starts” offices where we legacy staff have such any easy job.thefox wrote: ↑04 Jul 2025, 14:25Most of the people talking about this who are on legacy contracts want the new starts equalised the problem is them thinking the have the right not to get moved around or seem to have a beef with seniority. Not so much divide and conquer it's more stop thinking your the only ones to have had a hard time when you first start.

Same. Over 20 years in, last 2 1/2 years different duty every day with 2 days mail most days, while part timers with a few years stress about their own rounds

Cobblers. Firms used to get sacks full of mail rather than just the odd letter and considerably more parcels than now. Mail generally was much busier. I'm sure blue shirts will remember all the Readers Digest rubbish we used to get and remember good old Sky mags !!Blue shirts have never had to contend with the level of workload that Red Shirts deal with daily. Irrefutable fact.
What is true is that the job has changed with scan this , scan this, collect this, collect that but it was never as easy as you seem to think it was
