Union bashing and some members being treated poorly online by the union has been a problem since the last pay dispute.
Whilst the union have a process they go through to put a pay offer to the membership, it is a frustrating process for the members, though it is done this way so that they don't put every crappy offer to the membership and waste your time, but then again they still managed to push through a highly polished dog-turd last time by boring us all into submission by stretching it out as long as they could.
Now i am no longer part of it i shouldn't care, but i fear for you all and what the future holds.

You will possibly all be in need of a strong union to get a result, not sure if the CWU are that union and unless that left wing bunch gather themselves into something vaguely resembling a union, there is probably no alternative.

Area rep is a full time released position is it not? That to me makes you an official and a representative of the union. Its kinda in the name area rep. With that I think they should act professionally, absorb the criticism and not wind up and give sarcastic comments to their paying members. It only serves to diminish the unions standing.

Why has this forum become so anti union I think the job would be a lot worse without there input however bad we might think it is there have been some shocking deals going back decades but without there voice in the workplace think how unbearable it would be and it’s bad now come in on time do your job to best of your ability go home on time and take your money at the end of the week simples

I am of the strong opinion that good favour doesn't last forever and our current leadership needs a shake up to reinvigorate and restore credibility to the union. They are not beyond criticism but like to act as if they are. They like to espouse democratic values but shut down any kind of debate that paints them in a bad light.

We need a union. We need new leadership.

CWU says details of the deal will be announced Thursday afternoon, I guess this is dependent on it being endorsed Thursday morning

It sounds like they are pretty confident it will be endorsed? Although it is pretty unlikely the PEC will override DW/MW and tell them to go back and ask for a better deal!

I couldn't possibly comment as I don't know either of these people but I recognise at least one of those names from previous national elections.

Thats good to hear. Kinda doesnt detract from the complaint though. Maybe he should carry his good standing to his online presence. Though the top poster in this case is more of the guilty party. That and whoever is commenting as the CWU itself. I suspect its Chris Webb.

The problem the CWU has is that all the secret squirrel behind closed doors activity is acceptable if the result is good.

For several years now it's been "we'll tell you when we tell you" - "hold on a bit" - "it'll be amazing just you wait" - "look here's something that's somehow worse than you thought it could be" - "why aren't you grateful?!"

Well that and the fact they prioritised their reps over everyone else in the company towards the end of the pay dispute.

Can you imagine a job where you come in to work and then work on your own terms, stand on the phone for a half hour then pop onto a meeting with a colleague that has nothing to do with you and then come out and take you meal break and then go to your boss and say it’s nearly 11 now I won’t even get all my tracks done…..then drop the bombshell that you need released a day later in the week for another meeting with vague details……..if you can imagine all this, this is life as a rep

That may be the life of some reps but it certainly isn't for all, I certainly wouldn't do the job for the amount of grief you get but I'm very glad that some people take the job on

I though you were talking about my manager until u said about not getting the tracks done.
