He would have a field day at our place, the car park is covered in a couple of million rotting elastic bands, stacks & stacks of trays, couple of hundred empty Greggs bags & coffee cups 🫣

Well, I think that is a biased view. This is an American style Auditor trying to get engagement - well done for giving it to him. Though you do keep posting auditor style links I wonder why.

A lot of these YouTube videos show that it’s quite easy to just walk in to any office up & down the country :arrrghhh

A lot of these auditor-type videos show employees acting ignorantly. inappropriately, unprofessionally and/or illegally, and that is the whole point of doing them. I think these videos do a good job in showing the public how our public-service workers conduct themselves.

Personally, I would try to be helpful, answer any questions I’m able to, reaffirm his right to film in a public space (or a space the public has unfettered access to) and would then retreat inside.

Certainly! Here's the revised paragraph incorporating that addition:

The issue is that some auditors intentionally behave rudely and aggressively to provoke a response. They often appear to stage or edit their videos to present themselves in the best light possible, while depicting their targets as negatively as possible. This approach feeds into confirmation bias—since videos displaying confrontational incidents tend to attract more attention than those showing polite, professional interactions, there's less incentive to showcase positive service experiences.

A responsible auditor genuinely interested in improving the targeted government or public service would thoroughly understand all relevant rules and laws. They would record the entire process—from start to finish—preferably live, and unedited. Afterwards, they would share this footage with the organization involved, highlighting both strengths and weaknesses, and give them an opportunity to respond.

However, let's be honest: this approach is too straightforward. It's often easier to provoke honest workers, criticize them, and then edit the footage to maximize emotional impact and viral potential. The video is then uploaded to YouTube, and viewers from around the world watch the views climb—while the true story of the organization’s efforts gets lost in the process.

That said, I do applaud genuine auditors committed to accountability. Unfortunately, the auditors on YouTube are nearly universally driven by the pursuit of money and fame, rather than a sincere desire to hold organizations to account.
