Re: LTB 075/25 - Update on USO Pilot Sites
Hows the bank holiday weekend backlog working out in the pilots? Will we be told in about 3 weeks time?
Also, can anyone confirm that the first pilot office, Newton Mearns, has 20 all single driving duties?

Part time workers with childcare responsibilities, specifically the school run, were actively encouraged to join the postal industry. Part time duties were timed around the school run. When it suited the industry they were more than happy to facilitate these workers needs.Idk wrote: ↑23 Apr 2025, 17:25Pidleypoo wrote: ↑23 Apr 2025, 09:31No it’s also the 9 day fortnights and 4 day weeks.norris9 wrote: ↑23 Apr 2025, 08:36This is only if your office picks the 2 Saturdays in 5.Pidleypoo wrote: ↑23 Apr 2025, 06:42From all of the stuff that you hear coming out of the union it sounds like part timers will work their hours over less days.
That brings up a few problems that I can see.
What if part timers that have children and take them to school and so on don’t want to come in earlier because let’s be honest , it costs more for childcare than we get paid per hour.
If they do work their hours over less days , who’s covering the other days ? Another part timer meaning you’ll need more ?
I say this because most of what has come out suggests that you will need 2 people prepping all morning and if a full timer has someone who comes in after 9 then they won’t be out and it’ll fail immediately.
-Part timers needing to drop off kids will have to make new plans.
-Wednesday will be covered by the full-timers....they have to work all Wednesdays. I don't understand how Saturday cover works.
You do realise that people with children will have to leave the company? So that you and the union saying if you have kids you can’t work here.
So where are we at now , you’re not welcome in this job if you have kids , don’t drive or want to stay part time.
What a union we have and company we work for.
You do realise that 99% of people that work in other companies with kids have to fit around 9am-5pm?
That's just normal.

I wonder how the so called "four overarching principles for success" are fairing in the pilot offices so far...

You do realise other companies are way more flexible in their approach to their employees and don’t hate them the way this company does.Idk wrote: ↑23 Apr 2025, 17:25Pidleypoo wrote: ↑23 Apr 2025, 09:31No it’s also the 9 day fortnights and 4 day weeks.norris9 wrote: ↑23 Apr 2025, 08:36This is only if your office picks the 2 Saturdays in 5.Pidleypoo wrote: ↑23 Apr 2025, 06:42From all of the stuff that you hear coming out of the union it sounds like part timers will work their hours over less days.

But as you say 9-5 when that’s not what this company now wants , they want part timers in at any time from about 7 depending on which office you’re in.

Every duty is single van
They are running and using the spare employees to cover failed mail
They run with extensive overtime in morning and extend at ther end of day
They also split the 4 duties they cover in groups of 3
And also split up the duties so all 3 are covering parts of the mail duties and lighter parcel and 1st class
Cumbernauld pilot office sick is through the roof

Re: LTB 075/25 - Update on USO Pilot Sites
That is very interesting, as a quick google map search of 'Newton Mearns' draws a dotted line around that postcode area and shows it to be densely populated with suburban houses. There must be at least 14 duties worth of houses that look like prime shared van candidates, yet they are operating 1 to a van, with the obvious efficiencies and ease of delivery that brings. Is it a coincidence that they have been chosen first? That is quite concerning for me, don't know about anyone else. How an office that serves a population of around 30,000 people has 20 vans at their disposal (no doubt giving a high quality of service) is then to be used as an example that 'it works'.hans solo wrote: ↑24 Apr 2025, 07:41Every duty is single van
