We start training sessions next week on the royal mail PDA system and will be taking royal mail parcels sometime in May ,
This is not nationwide though ,
we are a trial depot .

Have they confirmed what sizes of RM parcels will be going over to PF?

From what little the management tell us it seems the big changes will happen at the end of July .
That ties up with RM wanting all the realignments in MCs done and dusted by early summer.
You'll probably find out before us then as obviously you'll be sending stuff for multiple postcodes to a PF depot rather than several do's, having said that communication is pretty s**t in this company so we'll probably be left wondering why the amount of parcels has dropped right down.
We probably won't be told any info about it until the day it starts and even then it'll probably earlies and nights won't be told about it. If it ends up being everything that goes through the RM network as a "large parcel" it'll have a big impact on overall workloads

How can they give accurate time slots? If you follow the PDA to the letter you’ll be out all night and if you want to put all the drops in the order you want on the PDA that could take an hour.

Question on new dpr method. Numbering parcels.
Quick question , after scanning parcels in indoor mode then picking up in draft format on outdoor mode what is the system to efficiently number them? I believe you can scan each parcel / packet and it's provides you with its number eg 1 of 150 or 3 of 150. I must be missing a step in the process to do this but no one at our depot has any idea of how it works. Is there any advice or possible link to training material. At the moment I am having to go through the pda and cross reference each parcel which is incredibly inefficient.
Thanks Ossy G.

It doesn’t take an hour to put the drops into your preferred order. Fiddly, yes, but no more than 15 minutes max to rejig even an entire 150-item manifest.

In the top right hand corner there is text like "Sort to route number" tap the grey bar to the right and it turns red.
Now scan and it will tell you the delivery number.
This has always been like this and is not new.

As all DPR routes are moving to 14.00 - 20.30 no one will be going out with 150 delivery points.

1. There is a toggle in the top right, “Enable Van Loading Tool”, or something like that. Turn that on.

2. Press any of the options in the pop-up about how many zones.

3. Scan an item, it will tell you the drop number.

4. At the end of scanning, turn the toggle back off, then hold Depart Depot.

Probably closer to 100-120 DPs for that shift length and time. But in any event it definitely doesn’t take an hour to rejig your drops.

Yes. We been told 14.00 - 20.30. Also the shoe box size and above is not happening. If the on foot postie can’t get it through the letter box it goes to the DPR driver apparently

If DPR routes do end up taking anything over letterbox size that would be amazing. When you get 50 minute loops you end up often with 2 bags just because the volume and size of the parcels that are not bigger than that daft parcel size measurer.

It’s been horrendous - people so stressed they’ve walked out - others suspended for not completing
Unions not interested
No training
Signed duties taken off people
Parcels missing - parcels not on manifests etc etc
Unions and management not supportive

But the MAIN THING!!
It’s reduced the time to deliver each parcel from aprox 2 mins 25 secs to
1 min 45 secs
But they won’t tell you that

And you’ve also got 5-6 yorks totally out of order to load using van assistance and you end up handing the parcels as many times as before
And anyone who says it takes 15 mins to load 130 parcels out of order onto the van obviously ain’t doing it -
And yes we’re told we have to follow the manifest route on the PDA
So drop 12 is 7 street A
Stop 94 is 9 street A

Sounds truly awful. Also why are the shifts starting so late?

The ONLY thing I can see at my DO is the ten or so AM DPR/SPL drivers won't need vans.
So a ten van saving for the depot.
Now you will have to faff around trying to get a van when the AM duty holders return with enough charge for your duty. (We are 99% electric vans)
