Those without driving in their contracts will have been employed before park and loop and van sharing was allowed even an idea in a penpushers head
It wasn’t a prerequisite when we took the job no matter if it is now for new entrants and no matter if you think everyone needs to drive to keep a job ( they don’t )
It smacks of jealousy mate
Call it what you like but a mon to fri duty is a pipe dream for the vast majority of posties , except non drivers apparently.
I don’t even know where this Mon- Fri thing has come because the pilot offices where this has been trialled: it’s too knackering for a walker to do the walking loops every pigging day. That is what they have found.
So the idea now is that they are indoors on a Saturday in order to give them some respite.
The grass is not greener on the other side.

Your right it’s not happening but it would be a quick fix for Royal Mail but the union know the uproar it would cause amongst drivers should it happen.
At the end of the day non drivers don't have to drive for royal mail if they don't want, regardless of whether they drive a car or not, and according to one of the USO planners who are currently at ours (we are a pilot office), they can't be made to. What the non drivers shift patterns are remain to be seen ... (at ours, anyway)
With the uso changes coming in this year will non drivers be able to sign for duties and if so how would this work .
The CWU should be ensuring there are arrangements in place for workers who are not contractually obliged to drive. These workers are not 'non-drivers', they have no obligation to drive. There will still be singleton duties such as town centres. There is no reason why a duty could not be created within a mile of the workplace so that these workers can be accommodated. Martin Walsh has dreamt up the role of 'van assistant' so that should accommodate workers too. Workers who are not obliged to drive should not suffer a detriment as a result of their contractual requirements.
You talk nonsense, if they have a driving license, they should be forced to use it or find another job, the business has changed down the years and so should they .
What a way to talk about other workers. You're a fine example of the reasons we're under the attacks we are.

No Martin Walsh has just said that ''no postman wants to be indoors on a Saturday'' and so they are trying to come up with some sort of Starburst way of working to have Saturday shifts be outdoors too
Whilst at the same time saying the non drivers have a fatigue issue and that indoors on Saturdays is the only respite
yeah im baffled too
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next
I'm a perfect example have driven for many years at royal mail but now not allowed because medication. I'd happily take redundancy if they offer it but accept many would prefer not to
I would give any driver two weeks before they were begging to come off it again.
I'm on a 1in4 and the two weeks that I work 5 days in a row almost kill me and that's without double and triple mail every day.
The thought of doing that every week would probably see me heading for the door so no uproar from this driver.
15+ years ago Everyone used to work 6 days a week and bags were heavier with bills, sky/cable mags etc
It was 22 years ago that the single daily delivery was introduced and we moved to a 5 day week.
I know, I was there.
The delivery was 3 hrs on a bad day and half that on a Saturday.
Fatigue wise there is no comparison with what we're expected to do now.
