Lost recorded post

Post by WK »

I have recently sent a letter recorded delivery from a small local Post Office to a firm of accountants in the next town on the 25th January. The company have advised that they have not received my letter. Checking the certificate of postage, on the tracking it has not been delivered to the accountants but a large office block in Glasgow. I have a signature and name of the person who has signed for the letter, and have contacted this company at the address on the certificate of posting. I have also lodged a complaint to the Post Office, The accountants have advised they do not have the letter but their address was definitely on the envelope. Is the letter likely to be Glasgow and if there any chance that it may be recovered. Any help would be welcomed please 🙏

In which town did you post the letter at the Post office, and what is the destination town please.

Is Glasgow "G" close by or are you somewhere else entirely ?

Forget the address on the package, Posties deliver to the address on the label. whats the address on the label and is that and the postcode correct ?
So the Certificate Of Posting given to you by The Post Office shows the address in Glasgow ?
Was the label put on the package in front of you at The Post Office.

Do find it strange tho that tracking only shows the collection and delivery.

Thanks, I was not sure if the address on the envelope or label is the one used for the delivery. I used a small Post Office with one or two staff max, and the letter was sorted in front of me and then I was handed the certificate of postage. The Glasgow postcode was on this but only noticed when the tracking number did not work with the expected postcode. I have raised a complaint, and have the signature of the person in the Glasgow business but whether the contents will be found.

The only thing I can think of is that The Post Office "Cross Labelled" your item with another.
Speak to your accountants and ask them around that date did they receive an item for a company in Glasgow.
If they confirm this then I'm correct and the company in Glasgow would have received your item.
I'm sure your item had your contact details inside if not on the outside, the company in /Glasgow should have contacted you in some form of manner so you could rectify the situation. Might have cost you to get it collected and delivered correctly but at least you could have sorted it out and seek compensation for your costs.

If the PO put a label including a QR type bar code on the envelope then the address details would have been encoded into that bar code. So if the receipt has the wrong postcode it means the sorting machines would have directed it to the wrong location. The written address wouldn't have been looked at other than at the point of delivery.

A Signed For item is only scanned on posting and then on delivery, so there are no scans missing from it's journey.
