I try to give the benefit of the doubt and not be too cynical about these statements, but when i read about manageable workloads, fatigue, etc i can't help but wonder what on earth you are on about.
There's very little to nothing since privatisation that suggests this company give a flying feck about my workload and physical wellbeing.
Otherwise why would they have made all the duties oversized in the first place, they don't care if i can complete in my time as long as the tracked get done, and two and three days mail is the norm nowadays.
If they really cared the duties would be shortened, they would recognise how physical the job has become and figure a way to alleviate that.
Making the duties longer to give us more saturdays off, while sounding great, will probably be too much for some of us and the rest of you will pay for it in the future when your bodies age.
These delivery companies need brought to heel and made to treat their workers better.
And most importantly
They wouldnt have reduced our sick pay
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next
I was more than happy when we were a six day week and our shift patterns were 5am to 11.30am Mon-Sat with a sub 400 call rate Martin
When I started under SDD, Saturday was my favourite day because it was the last remnant of the pre-noon finishes. I suggested last year returning to six days but with Tuesday and Saturday as half-days in the AM (5 days over 6). Never any chance of it happening, though, because it's all about afternoon and evening delivery of Tracked.
I might be being thick here but why would having more Saturdays off mean working longer in the week ?
I’m contracted to work 37 hrs a week over 1/6 and Saturdays are our shortest days
So for example if we worked the ours we do mon-fri we’d work more than 37 hours per week.
If I’m also correct that Mondays and Tuesdays would need more time because they’d be essentially 3 days mail then that has to come from the other days making them shorter
Incorrect, Saturdays have nothing to do with it, 3 days mail means you will be working longer Monday and Tuesday, 2 days mail Wednesday to Friday. 9 day fortnights are the answer.
What do you think Mondays and Tuesdays will need more time means ?
Saturdays have everything to do with it because if you’re on a 1/6 then it averages out at 37 over 6 weeks.
Our hours now would mean a mon-fri would be 38 hrs 10 mins but Tuesdays are the second shortest day.
We don’t even complete one duty on any of those days with 2 days mail and the tracked.
So Tuesdays would at least need another 1:30 which would make wed-fri shorter and they’re already impossible.

The union mentioned making duties smaller to accommodate higher calls rates, has this now been abandoned in favour of longer days and more days off ?
Unachievable duties have just been extended in our revision. So even if the do make them smaller they will still be unachievable.
It's a total stitch up for deliveries. The trial offices will be successful, they will not be allowed to fail until the OFCOM deal is signed off. Then the s**t hits the fan.
Of course they'll be successful, they'll be overstaffed from day one as they said excess staff won't be sent elsewhere so plenty of hands on deck more than the workplan requirements to ensure it goes smoothly, plenty of spare folk to get all d2ds in ready for Monday, I bet they chuck early ips in as well to ensure the 3 days mail every Mon/Tue gets out of the door in good time.
