Parcel bouncing between Leeds MC and Wakefield

Post by Omniscient »

So my parcel is bouncing between Leeds MC and Wakefield DO. I found out it was sent with the wrong postcode on the label but both the wrong and right postcodes are for the correct delivery office Pontefract DO. So what's happening, is it simply a case that the staff have no knowledge of postcodes/DO and are just lazily missorting it to Wakefield because Pontefract postcodes have WF at the beginning. I worked in an MC before and we'd check the post code/address and send it to the appropriate DO then they would put it on the right walk.

Is there anyway to contact Leeds MC and advise them to just inform the staff that Wakefield is not the only DO with WF in it's postcode and it would take a few seconds to search the address and sort it properly :chuckle

I would cross the wrong part of the postcode off, correct it and send it the Pontefract DO but that's just me...

The main issue is that the mail centres (MCs) are largely automated. Unless the delivery office (DO) staff manually mark out the 2D bar code that guides the machine on where to sort the mail, it will continue to circulate without reaching its destination.

Another problem, as you mentioned, is that the WF postcode area is very large. The staff at the Pontefract office won’t be familiar with all the street names in the other delivery offices (DOs), and the same is true in reverse. Additionally, with an overtime ban in place and duties often left unfinished, the posties at the DO are under significant pressure and simply do not have the time to implement the suggestions you’ve made or to follow the practices we used in the past. Nowadays, managers require them to account for every minute not spent delivering, which naturally leads posties to take the easiest route available. This is the reality of a privatized public service.

In this situation, your best option is to contact Royal Mail through their official channels and explain the issue to them. They might be able to send a message to the relevant delivery offices. If Royal Mail were more proactive and customer-oriented, they would have a system in place to alert posties and sorting machines, allowing them to reroute the mail effectively. Unfortunately, they do not.

I agree, they should make the system so if you go on your royal mail app then enter the tracking number, you can change the barcode based on the issue. So the next time it scans through the machine at the MC it will then go to the right DO.

Right now it just says "you are being rerouted" when I try to change the delivery.
