I think if your contract is from before 2010 (probably have the year wrong), it states in the contract that you won’t be expected to drive. All contracts after that expect driving.
So check your contract. They can’t just get rid of you and HCT jobs exist because the route is tricky to drive mostly.

Colleagues and managers will have the occasional pop about me being the only non driver in my office. but I just tell them
"Royal Mail employed me ride a bike"
They can't get rid of me because I am still providing the company exactly the same as was agreed when I signed on that godforsaken dotted line...or would provide if they'd kept the biles
Same! "Walking and cycling". Quite happy to ride a bike out to delivery should one ever be provided. It's like a self-propelled LWT. Send me out with the first class for multiple duties collapsed together on a Saturday and they can really boast about their carbon footprint. The outdoor times are crap now but at least it would rekindle some autonomy in the job.

Unlikely. Think RM long term want to replace all of us with agency. Think it's almost at the point now where at least half the people on shift are agency.

There is no fun to be had in scaring people unnecessarily though. How many people are there who do not hold a valid license? The number must be small. Within my office of 250 or so, there are only 5 non-drivers. It will not be difficult to find them work which does not involve driving, as long as they want the options presented to them.

There's less and less staff on the "legacy" contracts. Once the % of staff on them drops low enough it'll be financially viable for RM to get rid of them, and that's after the costs of employment tribunals are factored in

And the amount of non drivers dwindles by the years so there’s no reason to do it.
I mean it’s not , they’d have to double the amount of vans across the country and aren’t they the ones who keep going on about carbon emissions and being a green company.
The same type of person has been going round my office whispering this stuff into the ears of the 5-6 non drivers out of about 150 people.

You still can’t have 2 people drive one van at the same time.
As MW mentioned in the CWU Live, they want people to have more time off and working fewer Saturdays. However, only the van routes will be available on Saturdays so theoretically that means that non-driving posties will get every Saturday off. This isn't what Tony Bouch said in his live comms.
Oddly enough some of these posties actually have driving licences and drive to work in their cars but will not drive a RM van!
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
