Delayed T24 to Guernsey

Post by Lockardian »

Just asking a question as a customer.

On 20th December I posted a Tracked 24 parcel to Guernsey, Channel Islands. Although strictly speaking this was before the T24 deadline for Christmas (if classed as domestic), I was aware there was no guarantee it would be delivered by 24th.

It was scanned at my local mail centre on the evening of 21st (probably missing that day’s dispatch) but there were then no further updates and by 1st January it hadn’t been received by the recipient. We were concerned it may be lost, but then received an update on 2nd January to say it was at the National Parcel Hub. There have been no updates since.

The item wasn’t oversized (it was classed as a small packet) and the normal route for “small” 1C/T24/SD items is straight to East Midlands Airport (EMA) and on to Guernsey by plane, receiving the next scan when it arrives in Guernsey. I’m confused as to why it has ended up at the National Parcel Hub, which I assume is the Coventry Hub shared with Parcelforce.

I’m aware of potential delays at this time of year, but I often send items to Guernsey for Christmas and have never experienced such a delay before - with no evidence the item is even moving!

Can anyone shed any light on why the National Hub is involved here? New procedures? I could understand this kind of routing for 2C/T48 but not for “priority” items.

Tracking No: MZ276702401GB

Thanks in advance!

This item still hasn’t moved (or received a further scan) since 2nd January. I wouldn’t normally expect another scan until it reaches Guernsey, but there’s just no evidence it’s in transit. Can anyone offer any advice?

BTW I have spoken to Guernsey Post who have said these kind of delays do occasionally happen (and because of the holidays less “working days” have passed). What’s the best telephone number or email address to use in order to chase this up with Royal Mail?

Although I’ve found the customer service phone number, it’s very difficult to get through to! I will persevere.. but are there any other means of contacting Royal Mail’s customer service team? Email? I might try X.
