sorry but with literally millions of items going through the post everyday there is no chance of correcting the post code of a anything thats not tracked. Even with tracked items this close to Christmas its near impossible.

Basically its a very small needle in a very large haystack.

But if both postcodes get delivered out of the same office there is still a good chance they will arrive, though probably not on time.

I have the same problem an item I purchased online should have been delivered on the 23/12/24 Royal Mail tracked. Tracking works fine keep getting daily updates saying sorry error being re-routed, first time it went to Atherstone then Leeds then Driffield. Then again it did the same trip, on checking my receipt it appears I had a brain fart and put the right address but my old post code where we had lived for 22 years. The item is still clocking up some miles with the royal Mail but now it is just going to Leeds and Driffield.
Contacted the RM by email and phone, I asked if seeing that the item was legally mine bought and paid for with receipt would it be possible to change the post code answer its illegal to alter, so I have no rights over my own property the only people who can intercept are the police.
I asked if the call centre operative could get in touch with Driffield to hold the item told she would try but to no avail, phoned 2 days laterspoke again and was told the operative said they would get in touch again, still the item is doing the rounds.
The fundamental flaw would apper to be that sorting is done by a machine probably needs some software update so that when it reads the same item it multiple times it might flag up a problem. Hells bells am I stupid this smacks of other computerised issues within the postal system so I have no chance so at my age more chance of the grim reaper calling.
What this problem needs is HUMAN INTTERACTION as my item seems to never leave the the automated side, its like one delivery office reads the post code and the other the address. Told after 8 weeks it should be flagged up and returned to sender and yes it does have a return address.
I appreciate that the initial problem was mine, wrong post code but RM has done sweet f a to help and the joke is after my fist email enquiry where I was told there was noting could be done I received a how did we do survey- - left that on the back burner for now.
So thanks to RM Chat for giving me a platform to have a rant but come get a grip and switch on. I'd like to blame the Labour party for this but probably not their fault --- or is it. Merry Christmas and best wishes to all the mail delivery workers we never had a bad one and they have gone the extra mile thanks.

Both sides are right here.

There is no system to intercept parcels in the system and it has to be done manually with probably 3 to 5 million going through daily over this period, it would be a near impossibility to find it.

2 things need to happen to solve the situation.

1. You put in a claim for a lost parcel and describe the parcel as accurately as possible including the correct and incorrect postcodes. That means if it eventually gets routed to the unable-to-find address office in Belfast they may be able to match them with your parcel.

2. The other solution relies on the Driffield Delivery Office obscuring the routing code and either sending it on to another Delivery Office (hopefully guessing the right one) or sending it on to Belfast where they get the lost parcels.

So your best option is to put a claim in - its possible to do it through the Royal Mails website - even if you have no intention of making a claim, or can't because they deem its your mistake,

I don't know why you are looking to blame the Labour party. But since you asked, Royal Mail are judged on whether a specific percentage of correctly addressed mail that is delivered with the designated time frame (different percentages for each class of mail, etc). This means that RM deprioritise mail which is incorrectly addressed. This regulatory regime goes back to, I think, the John Major government, but has been continued through governments of different stripes.
